Great idea Brad. I tied the nori onto the rock and all my other fish went insane and devoured it within 1 minute. The trouble is that the Naso never even came out to look. I got suspicious and searched the tank. Then I found him, or half of him, sticking out of an anemone.

I am really heartbroken about it but have to figure that either the Naso was somehow ill or retarded, as I said before. It was really a cool fish and I can't believe it fell victim to an anemone.

So, do I pull out what I can get to, or let nature take its course? I see the shrimp there grabbing bites too. :(

Marc,

I tried the test but admit I am not sure which one is the common one. The ground and the left slot showed zero. The right slot had readings, and that is on the DC8.

Bob,

Overall dimensions of the overflow are 6 x 6 x 92. The three slots are 1.5" x 24". These are built this way to accomodate the euro-bracing/tank side connection to allow for better structural integrity of the tank side. I am by no means an expert on overflow design. I just built it to allow enough room for flow but to be high enough to gravity feed the skimmer through a bulkhead in the bottom. If you haven't already, click on the red house to see pictures of the tank build and overflow construction. It works great. I am really happy with it, especially considering it was my first acrylic project!

even for you tank the fish is big pollution. I am sorry to hear that. I guess I was a day late. DId you get your vlamingi?

Haven't picked up the vlamingi because I am waiting for my QT to free up. Did I tell you he wants to give me one of the new arrival vlamingis instead of the one I like and he has had for a few months? I have been watching that one and waiting to buy it...

So you think I should pull the naso?

dc8? you should have you meter on Ac i would think, or even better you do it now in ac, you have those powwer heads in there that run dc, but your heater and main return are both ac right?
Hot { } Nutral
O ground
when looking at it. this out let should be checked in ac, not dc mode. you could burn out the meter other wise.
like marc said, clean dry floor, i would use a jumper wire so your hands are not in the water.

If you dont you could spread disease to the other fish. bacteria's a decomposing fish isn't healthy to feed to a closed system.

I was standing right there when you two were bickering about which vlamingi you were going to get. I think it isn't the worst deal. I would have him move it to the middle tanks and see how it adapts to more of a reef enviroment. all three that had come in were skiddish. maybe compromise and pay a little for the one you want.

Jonathan,

Do you know where this fish came from? A lot of the symptoms you were describing sound like they could be from cyanide.

Look at the section Collection Locale in this article:

http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-02/ft/index.php

I could be careful in finding out where the fish come from and if it is from some of the areas Steven Pro mentions in that article I would pass.

Why does the guy want to give you a new fish when you like the old one and know it has been healthy for months? That seems weird to me.

Brian

Enderrea: The DC8 is an AC switching device put out by Neptune. I don't know why it is called that, but the output is AC 118V.

So I am getting readings with one probe in the water and one probe in the Neutral. Does that mean I have stray current in the tank?

Brad: I would definitely give him a little cashish to get the one I want, but I do have stuff to trade too. The thing that bothers me is that he knows I have been watching the one that has been there for a while and told me no one bought it when he had it on sale for $15. Seems like that would be a more-than-fair trade for wearing the T-shirt...you would have loved that scene!

Brian: You may be right about the cyanide. The Naso definitely had a dazed look to him, and the fact that he fell prey to an anemone tells me it certainly didn't have its wits about it. He really didn't act like any other fish I have. Maybe I should pull it and have it analyzed. That would certainly be good info. to know.

sound like you have current getting in some where, you should not be getting any readings, correct me if i am wrong marc!

dude. $15 dollars. that is cheap

ciro- the one jonathan wants is a 5-6inch one in his show tank. I just cant beleive he was selling it for that cheap. Mario is the shop owner and one of the best I have ever met. (it is funny watching to two fight like teenage girls though)

Jonathan I still like that big sohal he had. We need to get you an Atlantic Blue and Chevron and now Naso again.

Titanium heaters leak on occasion. I have a won brothers and it leaks, I hate it now and would never buy another. That would be the first place I would look.

Stick your hand in the tank and shock the stew out of yourself, then unplug the heater and stick your hand back in, that'll tell you.

I really would feel comfortable if you talking to someone with more knowledge of electricity. When I test, I'm a risk taker.

electric130 or H20eng would both be good people to ask.

Yes, you can remove what is left of the Naso.

Yeah the sohal is cool but I like that vlamingi more. It's cool with all the blue freckles. Might even be Irish!

The heater is not on.

I think I will remove the rest of the naso as the anemone is having trouble eating it. And BTW, I am a risk taker too. :D

Now the anemone has covered the naso so I can't get to it without a major clown battle. Hopefully it will recede tonight and I can get to it. Talk about being in a bad mood! I have been bummed all day.

What happened over the past few days? This is a bummer... Sorry to hear about your problem, I hope you get things figured soon. I would throw in some suggestions, but I think the professional stripper is better with electricity than I am:D

I am really not sure about the stray voltage but I am positive that naso was strange to begin with. A little more data on it...

When I brought it in I unbagged it and put it in a bucket which I then set inside my sump. I also put in the mysteri wrasse and the longnose hawkfish. Over an eight hour period I slowly acclimated them to the system water. The entire time the mysteri and longnose were very alert, frightened, and evasive. The naso just hovered in the bucket with virtually no reaction to my presence.

I also fed some brine into the bucket which both the mysteri and longnose sucked right up. The naso didn't even give it a sniff. I also dropped in some nori and still zero reaction from the naso. I should have realized that something was wrong and I remember thinking that it might be a bit stupid.

Anyway, I can't see the naso carcass anymore. I think the shrimp may have dragged it under the rocks, so now I have to contemplate whether to go in, move the rocks, and fight with the clown to remove whatever is left.

Hmm... yeah that sounds like a fish that may have been caught with cyanide. But I've only read some of the effects, never seen the behaviors. Hopefully everything works itself out!
