Trend? what trend? there are plenty of reefers using zoanthids as substrate already FWIU. Just for my tank that's going to be one big carpet! :D

Yeah Hop...nothing new there. I have been working towards this for some months now, and it will take quite a long time before I have any appreciable results. I am working on a plan to grow zoas in the shape of my initials.

Well that will be interesting... Initials:D

I'm just trying to get a tank I like looking at;)

I hear ya. My reef is looking pretty good right now. Still slowly bumping up the alk, but I am getting ready to do some aqua-scaping. Tiem to get those prescious frags off the rack!

Jonathan, what if your zoas start closing up on you? UGLY! You see the vitamin C thread over on the zoa forum?

Well not too hard. :) We are across Puget Sound by ferry or the drive around through Tacoma. Typical travel time from Seattle is about 1 hour.

Well that's only about 4 hours from vancouver then, hmmmm...

Kind of like canaries though. If your zoas are closing up, you know something is up. I have been following the Vit. C discussions and am currently looking for a good source of bulk powder. I remember back in the day my parents used to buy it and make their own capsules.

Yeah, I wish I had the time to travel a bit. I know my son is having a 4-day here soon. I really enjoy Vancouver and have been wanting to visit up there for quite some time. There's actually a couple of decent aquarium shops IIRC.

4 hours is about right BTW, but you wouldn't travel through Seattle. There's more direct routes.

Didn't your mom teach at CAL "back in the day"? What kinda powder, and what kinda capsules were they makin over there on Telegraph Ave? :D

But seriously, I'm really curious about the Vitamin C. I had one colony of teal zoas close up on me, while everything else is still fine. I'm hesitant to dose Vitamin C, as I don't know it's long-term effects on SPS, which are my predominant coral. I wish there were more before/after pics on that thread.

yeah, well, and sometimes they just close up. No reason to panic unless they ALL close up.

And BTW, my very close friend was a grad student at Cal in bio-chem and took me to the roof-top lab...ever been in there? That place was hot as a pistol and apparently used to develop LSD among other things.

I'm not too worried about my zoas yet, as the rest are doing fine. But what I find curious is the fact that ppl who dose the Vit. C find that the zoas (which were open to begin with) claim that they open bigger and are more colorful.

RC member, Flyyyguy, has an SPS-dominant tank, and he has started C. I'm following his progress. If Vit C works out, I'm curious how Injectable Vitamin C would work. I'm in healthcare, and can grab a vial to "try". My guess is the injectable product won't have the fillers that the oral product has.

I was actually a bio-chem major, but never been up on that roof. I prob wouldn't be here now if I ever found that roof!:)

Bigger AND more colorful!! We'll let me get some then. What a crock of poo.

And I would just put the Vit C in my fish food and let the cycle take place. Injectable? Interesting. Vitacost.com has quite a few powders, but I am not so sure how to narrow them down.

Yeah, I'm curious about injectable. Theoretically, since it's going into a vein, it's more pure than any oral formulation. Furthermore, it's already in liquid format. doesn't need to be diluted.

 Dosing vitamin C, sounds like your trying to get your corals to get over a cold.

It sounds a bit of a far fetched idea, but you'd have to try it to see if you get any results.

not ordered yet. There is a significant amount of research to be done first. I have to test the wave box system so that I can spec. it out correctly.

Then I need to determine tank material and this is more complicated than the normal situation. Because I am going to employ wave boxes, I need to have the tank be extra robust.

I also want a Starfire (low-iron) viewing pane but do not want a tank made out of glass. That brings to mind multiple possibilities like whether to make the tank out of acrylic and install a glass pane in the front, or perhaps build the tank out of another material like wood, fiberglass, PVC, etc.

So the hybrid tank will take some time to figure out and determine who can make what I want. I don't expect that I will get all this research done much before the Summer. Currently I am leaning towards Scott or James to build the new tank, but have not gotten to the point of being able to send them a spec. sheet.

Just dealing with taxes and other business is going to eat up the next couple of months, plus we are bringing online an entirely new web cart system integrated into our POS system in our store. I am going to have to do about 12,000 web descriptions and photos for our web cart, so that is going to put my brain into a coma. hmmmm...maybe I should pay someone to do that crap?

if you can build the plywood tank with the front starphire glass then it will be great. But who can build the plywood tank for you.

One of the member here on RC build his own and it's look like alot of work.
