[Wave box and CL each served different purpose. CL is for directional flow. Wave box is just wave motion without directional flow. Does it make any sense  [/QUOTE]
i understand but they both move water plus most corals like don't like direct strong flow anyway right?

the Tunze 6301 puts out nearly 8,000 gph at 63W. BTW, the wave doesn't necessarily "move" water per se. I grapple with this concept quite a bit and really don't have a full understanding of it, but if you discuss it with Roget @ Tunze USA, he will tell you that you should not use just wave boxes for circulation because it will not keep detritus suspended.

IT CAN BE TRUE, DEPENDING ON HOW THE TANK IS BUILT. The recommendation from Tunze is to utilize a tank that has at least one size larger than standard panes.

I have no idea what the effect on the silicone joints of a glass tank would be, but it seems to me this should be taken into account if someone is planning on using any kind of wave generator in a glass tank.

Years ago when the Wavebox came out, we were told that the lifespan of the tank would be decreased by 20%. I don't know if that is still true, but you might want to ask him since you are considering them.

Don't you expect the waves from different directions to cancel each other out?

Not exaclty. And I won't know until I try it, but I do have some ideas on how to create chaotic flow using multiple waves. I would like to be able to generate a gyre type "wave" as well as have front-to-back and side-to-side. With pointable powerheads, I may be able to fine tune to work with the aquascaping a little better than just straight on like they are currently used.

Keep in mind, I don't personally really care about visible waves. What I care about is natural flow patterns (or lack thereof) for my tank inhabitants. So in that frame of thought, I will over-build and de-tune to get the electrically efficient and chaotic flow I want for my reef.

Did ya ship the top-downs??? :D

I think the waves coming from different directions is a great idea, if it works. What I'd like to see you try if you proceed is to put the boxes on the end in night mode and the ones on the back in day mode. So the tide changes directions at night. You could even have them all running at once during feedings. :D

No, with my circuit breakers tripping with my temporary lighting situation, I had to stop everything and focus on the tank. I couldn't put it off another day. They'll ship out Wednesday before I head to the airport. Sorry.

That's exactly how I feel about the flow potential.

You're lucky you have enough electricity available!

so you're going with 6 boxes plus 4 6101's, thats what i would do for that size tank. i had to point all my CL and waveboxes to miss each other, so i wouldn't cause a huge sand storm. then again it all depends on rock work too. anything new and exciting going on here J :D?

Had a shocker last night as I was about to feed and my Rhomboid Wrasse jumped out of the tank and landed at my feet.

He looked a bit ood down there, and that's about a 5 foot drop. Anyway I grabbed him up and tossed him back in, but to my fright, did not see him durig the entire feeding session nor when I searched the tank for about a half hour after...

Anyway, about 20 minutes later there he was, back in general pop. Glad I was there, as I would hate to lose two of those suckers to fish stick disease!

BTW Bart, RC wouldn't let me post last night...I won't be using 6101s. At the minimum 6201s and if my experiement goes well with the super box, it will be 6301s.

on the bright side, the tunze won't craze your tank :D

Now, you may just blow up the tank with all of those waveboxes....but it won't be crazed :lol::lol:

When you say super box with the 6301, does that mean you will use the 55g drum? The 6301 may suck in air JMO

 Actually, Roger suggested I keep the footprint the same as the standard box (4.5" x 4.5") and just make it taller.

I just ordered the acrylic and I am going with about 9.5"Wide x 6"Deep x 30" Tall. But remember this is an experiment. One that could go horribly wrong. :eek2: And there's nothing wrong with sucking in some air. I have been contemplating a moving program that would inject air every couple of hours.

i meant to say 6201's, lol 6101 it was late :D. so does everyone has secret flow up their sleeves?

Didn't want to steer Lunchbucket's thread OT, but definitely wanted some more details on you light rack.

I have either overlooked the fact that it is automated rack or have simply forgotten. Do you just use the automation to move the rack back out of the way or do you have it set up to move the lights over the tank on a regular cycle. I'm very curious about the possiblities of doing this and if it will allow some flexibility in the number of fixtures and possibly even a mixture of wattages to cover a larger area of a tank, within reason of course:D

Thanks
