OK! Enough chat...Starting a 1000g+ Reef

Yeah, I cannot remember how long ago I put it in. It's been a very very long time though. And I need to correct you a bit:

You need a BIG system, that has issues like yours, to keep one of those alive for any length of time.

I got one to work in my tank, but it won't climb on the rocks. Is this normal?

who knows...they are made of jello. Mine have gone all over the tank, rocks, walls, etc. Yours just may be enjoying something tasty...they do go where the food is! :D

I don't know why it's competing with the crabs when it could have it all for itself????

maybe it's as stupid as a CBB? Have you picked it up and put it on the algae bed?
I've set it in the middle of the patch 3 times and it rolls off just like a giant beach ball

That's hilarious. Must be a personality disorder. My son says it's been well over a year since I put mine in. I don't know what to tell you Chuck, maybe it is some kind of morph that likes to hang out on the sand. It sure is dark colored. Lovethe blue spots too. Very nice.

thank you...a lot less beautiful now with so many corals sold, but it is still fun to watch. While doing my physical therapy yesterday, I saw a wicked smack-down.

Apparently Big Blue and the sailfin were in some sort of scuffle, and the ABT smacked the sailfin so hard it bounced off the front glass and sounded like a clap of the hands.

I thought for sure there would be injuries but did not find any.

Just got a package in from Custom and in it was my new CO2 unit. It's a Milwaukee MA957 with solenoid and bubble counter. It has some nice advantages over the German one I had before, chiefly that it is mostly brass instead of chrome, and the bubble counter is much better quality than the cheapo one cold everywhere for $20. The German unit did not include a bubble counter and was about 2 x the cost of the Milwaukee. So far it is working quite well, and I hope it lasts until the tank is down.

Further reading about CO2 setups has led me to believe it is quite common for them to fail and often much faster than mine did. What would warm my cockles would be one made out of thermo-plastic. :D

BTW, I am selling livestock through RF mostly so I get more local interest and because I can't keep track of too many threads for this kind of thing. I don't think I can link it here, but a search for Jnarowe will bring it up.

I would rather not ship of course, but there may be serious collectors with enough interest to warrant shipping. LMK.

I am on my third CO2 reg set up and it's a Milwakee. I like it a lot!

Sorry if I implied you system had issues ... I just ment you need some algea growing in a vast area to support one

oh no reason to appologize. My system has had numerous problems well documented within my threads.

And that is the case for a lot of animals commonly sold in the hobby. CBBs come to mind. Mine has never taken what I feed the tank, so it is surviving on what grows within the system. In a smaller tank, it would die.

Lawnmower blennies are the same. Many do not acclimate to fish food. Again, mine has never taken fish food, even though I feed very high quality foods with spirulina, nori, meat, etc. I could go on forever on this topic but then I'll just get bent!

So believe it or not, I made a new batch of fish food yesterday. I know my fish will not be here much longer, but I ran out anf figured I would pass some along to help with acclimation anyway. This time I did not use any aquarium products except for vitamins, Garlic Guard, and spirulina. The bulk of it was seaweed, shrimp, mixed seafood, and silver fish, and it turned out yummy! :D

Well, it has been too long between updates! The tank is running fine, params are good, and I am getting closer to the break down. That will be happening on the Wednesday the 27th of May.

The exciting news is that I have found a home for Big Blue. He will be going to a large system in Fargo, ND. It is owned by a bright guy who is well funded, so hopefully this will be Blue's last move. I am indeed quite sad about this, and having to ship him in the first place, but my primary concern is his well-being. Once he is in his new home, I will post a link so everyone can see him. The new owner is on board with making home-made food, and I am coaching him on that.

I have started listing equipment with the lighting components, and once the tank is down, will get into this much more. Those of you who are local and need rock, should come by my place on teh 27th at 9:00 am to get live MArshall Island rock for $4/lb. After that, it will be on sale at The Shark Reef for $7/lb. Getting it right out of my tank has some advantages of course, because there are many coral pieces, sponges, snails, etc.

The day is coming...

Sad to hear, but probably best for now... Good luck! It only seems fair that I come and see you when your tank is empty:D If I recall correctly my 370 was empty when you came out?

Yes J, on many levels, that'll be a sad day, but you know what is best for you.

And those of you near by who aren't lining up for the MI rock are missing out!

I am very pleased at your choice for a new home for the ABT. Shipping aside, he'll be very happy there and in good hands. I think he cares. I am sure the rest of your fish will find good local homes, whish I could scoop up your OST, but this "other side of the continent thing" may be too much. :)

Yup! :) But you know I'll have at least one if not more tanks still running. Just not the big'un. You sir, are welcome any time. Good to hear from!

All the other fish are spoken for anyway. It was just the ABT I couldn't place. I know a couple of local restaurants were interested, but I really wanted to find a more stable environment. The odds are good that he will survive the trip, and once there, the equipment and funds are available to take good care of him.

Yeah, the MI rock is great. Unfortunately the break-down is on a weekday, so that is a deal-breaker for most people. Unfortunately that is the only time I can get a crew to break down the tank.

Quick reminder to all locals. My tank is coming down tomorrow starting at 9AM. Rock will be available directly out of the system for $4/lb. You snooze, you lose!
