I have a 29 gal w/ two clown fish in love, this is the third round of eggs,, dont know what happens to them, they seem to be gone after about day 12 or so.. anyone breeding them.
OK who has eggs and what r u doin with them

i have a 3 year old, tank bred, maited pair of perks. the eggs are laid and then fanned by the male until i start to see the eyes forming. they are under a 12"-14" Purple tip anemone of about the same age. they take turns eating the sacks before they hatch regaurdless of the amount of food i give them.
this has been going on for about a year now. i dont mess with mother nature, just let it run its course.
the female lays eggs about every three weeks like clockwork.

The clutch will usually hatch after 11 days if the temperature is around 76 degrees. At 80 degrees, they usually hatch after 8 days and 6 days at 84 degrees.

once they hatch, the parents eat them? I turned off one of the power heads to keep the flow down for the little buggers,

Yes, the parents or corals in the tank will eat them. If you are interested in raising the fry, try reading Hoyce Wilkerson's Clownfishes book - covers all the basics and then some!

The babies hatch at night, I have never seen the parents eat any babies on the night of hatch. The male actually fans a little harder the night of the hatch to help them out a little. That doesn't mean they won't eat them afterwards. Since they tend to swim to the top the overflow tends to take most of them
The babies will not survive more that a couple days in your main tank. There is not enough food to keep them alive. The babies themselves are not that hard to raise in a seperate tank, the live rotifers that you need to feed them for the first two weeks on the otherhand, are very difficult. At least for me.

I have both of those.... if you are not accustomed to reading manuals, try the Clownfishes book first - it covers growing cultures, rotifers, etc. The manuals are great for technical detail, and Hoff's book (the second one in that list) does cover things like egg yield, etc., but much of the content is based on the research of fish other than clownfish (remember the title states "emphasis"). Read the Wilkerson book and then decide if you want to go further into clownfish rearing.

ton of work from what Im reading... I guess Ill just be happy with watching my clown fish do there thing.
