Oldude's new 400 gal tank build

Western_reefer Wow! Absolutely gorgeous!! What kind of SPS is that? I'd love to get a frag of it! lol
bullitr That's nice Sir!
aquavista99 So sorry to hear about your loses, Oldude. Your SPS reef was one of my favorites. In any event, I am sure your new reef will be bigger and better than ever.
aquaph8 Sorry to hear the bad news. I have always been and will always be a big fan of your tanks. I cant wait to see what you do next and wish you the best with your comeback.
Bax That's one evil looking crab!

I'm sure your tank will come back bigger and better!

Sorry for your troubles!
Elliott I like your attitude, onward and upward!
Thanks everyone.
aquavista99 Have you decided on which skimmer you will be using to run your new reef? I recall you were previously running a Euroreef RC 500 skimmer at one time and discussed upgrading. Just curious if you upgraded skimmers yet, and if so, which skimmer did you select. I am currently running the RC 500 skimmer on my 400g SPS system as well.
Yes I am still using the RC500.

I'm glad you're not throwing in the towel Greg, I've really enjoyed following your threads and I look forward to v.2. You'll be up and running in no time with a chance to learn from any mistakes you might have made themfirst time around.

Did you distribute frags of most of your corals that you might be able to reacquire?

On a positive note when I was pulling some things apart I found this nasty coral munching crab I've been after for over 2 years, so I'm rid of yet another pest.

Glad to hear you got rid of this crab.

What are some options for catching a crab like this? Can you use and old stocking with some food (krill, etc) inside it?
Thanks

:sad1: Wow Greg, I am really sorry to hear about your tank. I too have enjoyed following your thread and it was one of the tanks that I really admired. However, I am glad to hear that you're already planning a comeback and look forward to your new reefing adventures. When the time comes I would be honored to donate a few frags, just say the word.

It's interesting how things so often happen all at once or just run from one to another creating a bad blurr of events.

I can completely relate to this sentence and I'm sorry to hear it came to this Greg. I too have a small stash of corals at a friend named Gary ... and I'll be starting over myself as well ...

Thanks Ian. I'm confident I can get some frags back however there are a lot that I never released frags of so they're gone for good.

I was able to catch this guy off guard and nabbed him with the hemostats he is being held with in the picture. I know that a baited jar can often work but you get the best results if it's tilted right by where the crab resides. The stocking idea is intriguing and may also work. I personally have not tried that method.

Thanks Dan. I really appreciate your generous offer but getting frags shipped from the US can be more trouble than it's worth because of customs & CITES laws so that isn't an likely an option. I have some plans and expect things to come together fairly soon.

Thank goodness we have friends called Gary. Sorry to hear you have to start over as well. Good luck with your rebuild.

Moses I believe them to both be A.humilis, an interesting note is that when I got them both as frags they looked pretty much identical and now they look nothing alike.

Really glad you're going to do it over again Greg. If you'd like a hand with anything or a few frags (I do have some of yours) let me know and I'll make the multi-minute drive over there =)

I wondered what happened to you.Well you will still be my go to when I finally get off the fence and dive in so to speak.By then your new system will be well established I'm sure!

I've been pulling the dead corals out of the tank over the past month and ended up with 4 pales worth. Unfortunately I had already thrown one in the trash before I thought about taking a picture.

I started the rebuilding process today introducing acros back into the display. It's been approx 5 weeks since there's been any live sps in the tank so I am confident any AEFW and M.E.N.'s have had time to starve out and perish. All corals new & old have all gone through a 5 week, weekly dip excercise and I have not seen any parasites for over 2 weeks in the process. My tank has now turned into "frag central" I have about 45 corals (small colonies & frags) in so far and although it looks better than it did with nothing in it I still find it lacking of it's former self.;)

Sorry about this Greg. I hope all the troubles are in the past and you can start moving forward.
