Salinity is at 1.025. It definitely spiked last week when I did my last waer changed, but I had hoped we made it past that once I diluted. Everything ecovered well and was out and healthy before I added the sump.

Are you using a refractometer or a swing arm hydrometer to measure salinity?

Have you brought your water in to an LFS to have your water tests confirmed?

I brought some water to the lfs- nitrates a little high, alk a little low. Other than that everything was spot on. Some zoas are trying to come out, hammers are out maybe 1/2" but limp, fish and shrimp still ok.
Water change later and ride it out.

Just to follow up, it was eventually discovered that Seth used GE SILICONE II.

Old dry rock and old sand can bring in a lot of things that are harmfull including dried organics to rot in the water, free metals, phosaphte and so on. Ammonia at is harmful . It likely started from decaying material. That tank needs to cylce before putting more animals in it.imo.
Activated carbon a@ 1/2 cup per 50 gallons is enough. More is wasteful but won't do any harm to fish. The amout of gfo and frequency of changing it depend on the amount of phosphate in the water. It is still very high at .5ppm.

I was worried about the silicone. I believe Ge II has mold inhibitors which is lethal to our tanks. Get it out, 100% water change and fresh carbon

I know I'm really late in here but to add to your very first original thread comment out of the gate if you ever want to catch a fish I've had some good luck with a gatorade bottle or coke bottle washed out. You cut the top off of it and turn it inside out so the neck faces in and put some mices or brine in there. and sink it to the bottom. Sometimes you have to jerry rig it a lil bit for the sizing of fish you want to catch but it tends to work. Or on the off chance like me catching my cinnamon clown I caught just about every fish but that one. But generically it works.
