So I added and magnificent anemone to my tank a few weeks ago and my Onyx pair took to it right away. The last few days I've noticed that just one of the clowns isn't as vibrant and looks pale. They are both eating and acting normal other wise it's just the color, should I be concerned or is it normal? Thanks

I have a wild caught Onyx clown that's been hosted exclusively by a Mag in the last 3 weeks or so. He was hosted by a gig for 4 months before that. He has not lost his color. However, I had a C-quest Onyx before and it started to turn orange a few days after moving into a mag. First video below is my current pair. Second video is the c-quest clown. You can see how it goes in the next couple of weeks. If he/they continue to lose color then it might be a good idea to get a gig that's larger than your current mag. That will encourage them to adopt the gig as their primary host.

Onyx can loose black when going into Magnifica. I don't think we know for sure. I had Onxy lost black to Mag. Moving anemones and clownfish around the same pair of Onyx back to the same Magnifica turn completely back again.
All we can said is that Percula sometime loose color with BTA, Magnifica and LTA, but not always, even to the same anemone.
In your case one lost color but the other did not.

Yeah it's a strange thing, I had a BTA specific and my picasso's(percs) lost nearly all black color, pulled the BTA's and the black came right back, and this is not the first time I've seen this w/ mags even though mags are a natural host, and I don't think anyone can say exactly why.

Someone here on RC claimed they were able to bring back black color in Onyx clown by switching to protein rich diet.

I had percula even lose much of their black in a gigantea - and after almost 2 years it hasn't returned. They still have wide black borders around their stripes, but the solid black in-between made way for a very bright orange.
Another pair got almost completely black in a gigantea. Those guys were before in a crispa which also didn't cause them to lose any black. Another pair I put into a crispa grayed out on me.
All my percula pairs are wild caught.

My picasso's I had for 5.5 years accepted many non natural hosts, but they flat out refused my haddoni, the only nem they refused, and I gave that 4 months and every trick in the book.
Now the red haddoni goes for quite a bit more money wise, in that sense it's a smokin' deal for you, but money aside, I'd prefer the mag myself.

I don't think that it anything to do with the sting of the anemone.
In the wild you never see "onyx" percula in magnificasโ. The percula you find in the wild in magnificas are bright orange and white with very little to no black.
The real difference is the water depth range. The percula with a lot of black are found in very shallow water, so shallow that they sometimes fall dry during extreme low tides.

I have had Rod's Onyx clowns faded to completely orange in BTAs. The only anemone I know for sure won't wash up the color of the Onyx is gigantea.
