Opinions b/w 24gal Aquapod and Eclipse 15gal

I'm either converting an Eclipse1 15 gal FW tank to a nano for my daughter or I'm going to buy a 24 gal Aquapod or Nanocube for her. Obviously the cost will be cheaper with the eclipse since we already have it, but I would do the upgrade kit for the lighting which I think bring it to around 32watt PC for about $60. I'm a little worried about salt creep being higher with the Eclipse than a Aquapod or Nanocube. Wondering if anyone has used an Eclipse for a nano cube and what they thought. Also there'd be more water volume and tank space with the Aquapod 24 gal. Any other pros and cons?

Opinions???

Thanks

If you can swing $170 I would go with the AP 24g here:

I'm using the eclipse 3 (which is only 3g) for the mantis shrimp that I found from the live rocks and is doing well but a lot more salt creep because the light was too weak and I had to put one of those dest lamp with sunlight on top and algae is growing fast.

I think you will be more happy with the bigger tank and it's got pretty much all the things in there without having to do any mods if you don't want to. Good luck in your search.

left out and typo:

I had to take the cover off the eclipse to put one of those desk lamp with sunlight bulb on top and with lower rim which causes more salt creep than my open top AP.

If its for your daughter, go with the aquapod because its all in one. I have the 15 gallon tall eclispe although right now all I'm using is the tank. I have the coralife 96 watt over it with a aquaclear 20 for carbon.
But if you want a tank with a refuge or sump, The eclispe would be better. You would have to get powerheads and a light for the eclispe which depending on what you wanted to keep could be cheap or expensive. wow, that was long

Thanks guys for the advice.

Yeah, I saw that ad for Drs. Fosters which got me questioning the idea of modifing the Eclipse. For a little more than modifing the lights, she could have a larger, probably better tank.

flameangel, I did the exact same thing with the mantis I got with my TBS rock, put him in a 3 gal eclipse. Finally gave him to a fellow reefer after he was in there a year. He's now in a much larger tank now and probably thinks he's found the promised land:)

Again thanks for both of yours advice.

Go with Aquapod, I dont have one, but I have heard bad stories about the JBJ cracking and leaking. Its set up for a yr and then crack, there goes your very expensive tank. They might have corrected it, I dont know.

LOL! I hope I don't have to wait a year to find the mantis a home and I really don't want to keep the 3g tank going. If I was to get another tank going I would rather convert my 50g to salt but have to find a home for the mantis and catch the other mantis that is in my AP 24. I guess every TBS package comes with mantis.
