ORA Hawkins Blue: Hardy or not?

Hey Basser,
Polyps only at ends of braches on the Hawkins (and most other "smooth" Acros AFAIK) mine only has PE after lights out... good health, hmm, I'd say nice color with smooth skin all over (no ragged or rough areas) and good PE at night

If you look at cato's two photos, you can see that in the first one the coral is a bit irritated, the second one is how a nice happy Hawkins should look IMO

O.K., Good to know! Thanks for the info.

I just got a ORA Hawkins this past weekend, and it's huge--larger than catos. I dipped it in ReVive, then managed to break one if it's tips off, but in 48 hours it seems fine--no loss of color or any signs of stress. Fingers crossed...

Under my T5's it's the most beautiful green--some where between teal and lime, and it has brilliant cobalt blue tips...

Very hardy in my experience. Went through a move and alk spike without any problems. Here is an old pic of mine. it's a fast grower as well.

i got mine from a website back in florida they sent me a pearlberry a hawkins and a roscoes.... roscoes was DOA the other 2 already showing signs and they were gone by the next morning...

Luckily they gave me back my money but still i dont know what happened must of been bad shipping they had coolers in it maybe it got too cold....

plus the frags they gave me werent even encrusted on the plugs they were freshly super glued to the ORA plug...

Cato..... How is your Hawkins doing? I know you were having a problem with some. I have had mine for about a month now and it seems to be doing well. Here is a pic of mine:

Granted, I've only had mine for 3 weeks, but so far very happy in my new tank. Extremely colorful with it's signature blue-green, with brilliant colbalt-purple tips, under my T5's... I didn't pay much attention to ORA for many yearsâ€"they made hearty good frags but the colors weren't muchâ€"but with big healthy and hearty colorful frags like this Hawkins and the Purple Plasma I got at the same time, they certainly won't escape my attention any more...!

I only kick myself for not taking the Pearlberry and Oregon Tort as well....:(

It's doing great. I'll try an snap some pics when I get home tonight. :)

143gadgets...Your Hawkins is AMAZING!

Wanted to report that I had a move a couple weeks ago - everything did great except my Hawkins. I lost him :(.

I dont solely blame it on the move however, as a couple weeks before the move I had to change out my GFO. After changing it out and rinsing it I stupidly forgot to turn down the effluent on my GFO reactor, which of course made my PO4 level plunge to nothing (probably). Long story short a couple SPS went light on me, the Hawkins taking it the worst. The others did fine and came right back after I figuired out what was going on, but the Hawkins remained the same, and the stress from moving took him out IMO.

WOW!! Holy Thread Resurrection!!

I completely forgot about this until I saw my old post. The Hawkins I had eventually grew in to a nice colony.

But I lost it when it all of a sudden it RTN'd on me! All other corals did and are doing fine! I have read where smooth skin acros can do this for no apparent reason.
