Orbit PC's vs Nova T5 - Is it an upgrade?

I have a 20H and I am currently running an Orbit 2x65w PC fixture. I have an offer to sell it which would allow me to upgrade to the Nova Extreme 4x24w T5. Would this be much of an upgrade or should I hold out until I can afford MH or Tek T5's?

Its a small upgrade. You'd be better off with individual reflectors. I hear the novas are going to them shortly.


(FWIW, the icecap reflectors are much better than the teks, and about the same price)

I contacted Current info last year with the same question. The Tech said the T5 would be about 30% brighter than the PC. It's not worth it.

30% seems like a pretty nice upgrade especially since it wouldn't cost me a whole lot. Any other opinions?

30% sounds about right, maybe only 20%...it is noticeable and if you can afford it why not.

BUT....for a little more you could get something much better like said above

If it doesn't cost you anything--do it. Don't sell your PC fixture for a loss, then buy the T5 unit. I add a 3rd 24" tube to an Orbit light for about $65. That's also an option. See my gallery for a photo.

If I could do it for "a little" more, I would do it. The problem is, I don't have a canopy for a retro so I need a full hood. A Tek or some kind of MH hood is out of my price range at this point.
