Order from NY Aquatic

Just placed my first order (Pyramid Butterfly) from Michael at NY Aquatic after hearing good things about him on RC.

One question for those that have ordered from them in the past, what was the salinity your livestock arrived in?

From Live Aquaria I can always count on 1.021 or so and 1.025 from Diver's Den. What's your experience?

We ordered a very small P. sphex from NYA recently. The fish was in great shape, and the packaging and communication were top notch. Tiny lionfishes can be a bit touchy, but the little feller is fine and is going thru the weaning process ATM.

Renee unpackaged the little guy...I don't believe she told me what the salinity was.

Have had pretty good experience with NYA. 5 of my fish are from NYA and doing great. Good luck with the butterfly.

Michael gets great stuff and has some of the rare fish that many of us covet.
In addition, if you don't see something on his site, call him, he can get almost anything...
I highly recommend...

Does he offer free shipping ? I just randomly added a few hundred bucks worth of stuff and it didn't seem to change ... just got higher and higher for shipping ?

That's the one bad thing about him. He gets awesome and rare stuff, has great prices and packs it better than anyone I've ever ordered from but his shipping is outrageous. Unless I'm wanting something rare I always look elsewhere first to avoid shipping costs from him. Can't really do group buys from him either to save on shipping as the price keeps going up the more boxes you add.

Yeah that was always the dealbreaker for me =/ NYA has a ton of great stuff but the shipping scales with what you buy and it's a little scary. He has a few things listed on ebay, and there is a flat rate shipping with that. I think it's 34.99 plus $5 per additional item. No 14 day guarantee if you buy through ebay.

True, but more often than not, his prices are so low that even with the heavy shipping you save money...and he
Michael is a great guy who cares about his fish...I have known him for about 10 years...when way back when he worked out of his home...
I am lucky to call nya a lfs...a top-notch place for any livestock...
lol, just ask BradleyS about his hybrid diamond tail...crazy score Michael!
btw, Michael is in here just doesn't respond...
hey Michael, thanks for the killer fish you get for us, lol....

Not denying that they are great fish at relatively low prices! I know a couple of people locally that have ordered from him and the fish are in amazing shape when they arrive. The shipping is the only real drawback, and I suppose even then I can get a large black tang shipped to me cheaper than I can from LA, so there you go :P

Ya I like how he has Moorish idols not only at a good size/price but also advertises he doesn't sell unless they eat at his facility

He let me into his garage at about 10pm back then for some late night browsing, then brought me up to show me his dt.

I've been gunning for one of those fish. Keep us posted with how it goes. My QT's are full at the moment, so it'll take me a while before I'm ready to pull the trigger...

+1 If I am spending a good couple hundred $ and up on something that is more difficult to find I would not blink at paying that $35 shipping charge which is all but forgotten about when the specimen arrives.

I especially like DD for the fact that the fish go through their QT regimen and Michael at NYA for his customer service and he gets the more hard to find fish.
