Ordered a generator for $150 after $150 rebate

Woow! everybody is getting one. I'll be picking up mine tomorrow.

Doliver, I'll test it and let you if pumps will work on it.

I'm a generator noob. Do these run off gas? Are they OK to turn on indoors? Do they give off any fumes?

tbone, the concern with noise is neighbors. A cheap generator like this will be very loud and your neighbors will not be so understanding when you want to run it overnight through a power outage...

Oh definitely. What decibel level is considered "acceptable"? Also, is it correct to assume that a generator will "run forever" as long as the gas is refilled?

what more importance your neighbores or your irreplacable reefs and frozen foods,70 db is not that loud.

Becareful guys. You really get what you pay for. Can't complain about the price but when I was at kragen the people there were not saying very good things about their own generators BUT it is cheap.

Remember to drain the gas out of the carbs when in storage and make sure you fire it up a few times a year to ensure it still works. Someone on this board lost their entire coral collection because generator failed.

Gasoline doesn't store well either. So get some gas stabilizer. I also assume this gen doesn't have any insulation so you will probably have to build a foam insulated box with decent airflow if you don't wanna **** off your neighbors through the night.

I need to find a decent true sine wave inverter myself, I doubt I'll get to the point where I'll want a generator that auto-fires when power is lost (at least in the near future), but hell running my tank (or at least a a vortech pump) off my car might be handy. Unfortunately I found out the hard way the last time we had a power outage that a cheap target square wave inverter doesn't work terribly well with pumps, although it might be fine for heaters (unsure about that)

Here are some reviews of the genny in question
http://www.cabelas.com/reviews-cdn/8815/522130/reviews.shtml

From reading the review I see now why my back is broken ... 100 lbs! Not bad if it's on a weight bar, but in a large box, it's a bit awkward!

When I picked mine up, a female cashier rolled it out on a hand-truck. She rolled it to my van and called over a mechanic, he just lifts it up like it's nothing and shoves it in the van. Ah ... the combination of youthful bravado and a girl in close proximity gave him a burst of strength! WHen I go home, I figured it wasn't that heavy and I wouldn't need to dig out my moving dolly/hand truck. I should sue that mechanic...

PS. get one of those battery powered air pumps too, just for extra piece of mind!

Looks like there is a "wheel kit" which might be worth getting...you know, what with the whole 100lb thing and all..

When I slink back to Kragen's to get the rebate authorization form, I'll ask if they have the wheel sets. Otherwise, I think a moving dolly that can hold 100lbs would work. (Or make one from 2x4's and heavy duty castors)

Now I gotta fing my gas can and try it out, I'd hate to have this in the box for 3 months, then when I need it, it's broken! I'd rather return it if it's busted as soon as possible (and to check out the noise level)

my AC is a lot louder so am sure this is not that bad.

Perry, the wheel kit is pretty easy, just buy some large solid caster wheels and bolt it in, just make sure the wheels have locks on them so when its running it doesn't actually running around :D :D

Has anyone bought the Honda units with true sine wave inverters? That is what I would like but they are considerably more expensive; especially, with propane kits.
