Oregon Tort ?

I bought an Oregon tort 7 month ago from a source on line that claimed it came from the original colony back in the day. The longer I have it the more I'm noticing green closer to the base of the coral. I do not believe it's a cali since the new growth isn't white.
Is it possible for the green to be on it if it's a true Oregon tort? If so what can I attribute the green to?

It's sounding like Cali tort. They get confused sometimes. May or may not have been sellers fault. Can you post a pic under some whites? Otherwise we will just speculate. My Oregon never had any green

Ok I will do that. I thought that potassium got used up in systems like zeovit and aquaforest where they were using a reactor to drive down nutrients to unls.

Yeah zeovit n aquaforest use zeolite rock in their system n the zeolite is very potent it will absorb almost everything that's why a lot of reefer fail at zeo because they don't follow and dose everything. If u want to be successful in zeo u have to buy n dose everything they ask u to dose. Potassium n iodine are the 2 most usage in your reef tank and sometimes water change alone don't replenish enough.

I use to check for potassium but stopped a long time ago. It was always above nsw. I run a simple tank with a carx and do a wc 1 or 2x's a month. My other corals that are blue look pretty good. Maybe I'll contact the supplier I got it from. I'll also p/u another potassium kit since mine is most likely out of date.

Does not look like Oregon Tort. Not only the color but the growth is wrong. I know its small but not looking OT to me, looks a lot like Cali Tort though. Nice piece either way.

I don't think that's an Oregon tort. When you said you see hints of green I thought you meant the frag is blue with hints of green. What I'm seeing is a pale green frag. Maybe it'll color up once it gets settled?

Structure is right. It could be. Lots of corals can be green when they are small and have not yet gotten their mature zoox to fill in. You should know more when it is a few inches.

I got my Oregon tort from sanjay. Its only like an inch and a half and its been pure blue since I got it. Seems odd yours would have green

It does kinda look more like a cali tort with the green body.

I spoke to the vendor I obtained the frag from today. She said she was 99% sure it's an Oregon due to the coralites and the round tips on the branches. Also the fact that its growing slow. She couldn't offer any help as to why it has changed in color. When I did get the frag it was a deep dark blue. I'm just not sure what else I can really do or try. I can't be the only one this has happened to. I guess I'll order some more test kites and check potassium. This is just very odd.

different types of lights can change things a lot...what light was it under before you bought it and what light is it under now....

It's under gen 2 radions with t5 supplements. They had it under radions as well just not sure what generation.

I thought I remember reading high nutrients causing corals to turn green but how high is high. My no3 is 10-15 and I know people have higher than that without stuff turning green.

Well as jda said - structure looks like OT but am not sure about the color. I had OTs in teh past which would brown out but never had them turn green . Honestly it doesn't look like OT but I would still let it grow and see.
My current one is deepest royal blue possible under halides.

Well it's mine so I'm going to ride it out lol. I did some testing tonight and I was surprised at my results. I've been pretty lazy as of late. I've just been feeding my fish pellets/nori for the most part. Maybe 1 or 2 times a week I've been feeding frozen food. On the salifert no3 it's coming up as 0. I ran the test 3 times. It's set to expire in September of this year. I'm not surprised since I only have 3 fish currently in a 200 gallon. Alk is 7 and ca is 460. So everything is in line except I'll feed more.

I guess wait and see. I'm getting ready for a tank upgrade and my LEDs aren't going to be enough so I'm going to mix in a couple 250 watt helices. Maybe that will be the difference or i just flat out got taken.
