Any one had the inside part of the unit with the float start to rust ?
It's around six months old and I took it out to clean it when I noticed there is a lot of rust, it looks like the magnets are rusting. Anyone else seen this ? Still seems to be working fine. Not sure what to do.

The magnets cannot rust, they are ceramic. One of two things is the culprit.

1) At some point the magnetic picked up something that can rust or is rust. The biggest culprit is iron based phosphate removers, these are literally rust and will stick to the magnets, especially the fine dust they can emit when first added. A staple, cable tie, paper clip, bits of steel wool, anything iron that may have been picked up by the magnet is a possible culprit, if the stain scrubs off with a scotchbright pad, this is likely all it is.

2) Under the magnets is a thin steel plate that bridges the magnets and combines the power. This is coated but occasionally this coating can breech, in this case the stain will be darker and deep in between the magnets and not as easy to scrub off.
