i am lookin for a carry gun,i have looked at quite a few in the last week or so and am leaning towards the sig 238 with rosewood grips. anyone have any experience with this model?

Working on my permit now....what a PITA! LOVE the XDM .45s.

No experience with that model.

There was a guy Harry on here that was huge-into it. But he didn't play nice & got the RC boot.

No experience but I'm in the same boat as cully, getting mine. When I do my grams has my grandpas(rip) old .38 special revolver,6" barrel, police issue that she is giving me. She wants to keep the snub nose for herself, originally she was goin to give me that but she likes to carry that one better. Fits in her purse and easier to pull.
Ps. Don't mess with my grams!!! :-)

if it makes you feel any better gary the 238 is a shrimpy pistol. its ment to carry concealed, fits nicely in the front pants pocket if need be

S&W M&P9c. Love it! They have the compact in .40 also. Pair it with a Robert Durbin IWB holster and you're in business.

Glock 22, .40 cal, big enough to knock someone down with 1 bullet and small and lite enough to carry. I do not have a pistol permit but am currently writing this message from Afghanistan and have extensive knowledge of firearms. Have a good day.

Whatever pistol you buy, hold it first. If you have a friend with the model, see if you can shoot it. I shot a Glock 9mm and wasn't a fan of it. It didn't seem to fit in my hand well or something. They're nice guns, just not for me.

Totally agree Joe!

I was completely sold on getting a .1911 until I held it and realized how bad the fit was and ended up with an HK USP .45.

Full size or compact USP .45?

The full size one is a total dream to shoot. It is a very nice firearm.

Full size!! Loved it!

A few buddies of mine and I would frequently go TDY to Georgia for 30 days, every other month to assess Lockheed's new model C-130. On weekends we'd go to "LGS's", and rent pistols to shoot on their indoor ranges. Anyways my first pistol was a Ruger P89 9mm with a red dot, then wanted bigger and got the HK.

I got rid of them when I finished my enlistment and got married lol. Since then I've filled the pw out for the CCW but always stall at going to the county building for prints. NOW, my bro inlaw just completed his and said you have to now make an appt to some sub-contractor whom charges $150 to do it digitally.

I digress...sorry OP! lol

The usp is nice but I would never carry one.

My 3 carry guns are
XDM 40
Glock 23 & glock 22
Para 1911

A few things to think about if you have to pull the trigger (and lord I do not with this upon anyone.)

Safety- do you really think your mind would function right and think to hit it?
That is why I like my XDM and flocks.

Reliable- well carry guns are hardly cleaned because they are grab and go, they get covered in pocket lint dust rocks food drink and the list continues. This would me almost a sure failure for most guns..... But my glock and XDM hold up to it and I know they will go bang when I pull the trigger.

The M&P are the same way. You can get them with safeties, but they usually come without.

Justin, no worries. I picked up the application 3 times before I finally finished it. When I finally did it in Monroe County, they charged for everything up front. It made procrastinating harder because I didn't want to lose my $130.

my carry guns include: Kimber Ultra Carry II (.45acp), Glock 26 (.9mm), S&W 642 airweight (.357). My kimber is by far the nicest compact 45 i have ever shot. XDM's are great guns as well. I have a 9mm XDM but feel its slightly to large to carry. Best holsters on the market by far are crossbreeds.

I'm not going to disagree that they are great holsters, but I have never found someone that doesn't like their Dubin holster. I can't say the same for Crosbreed.

Bob will make your holster for your specific gun and send it to you. If you don't like it, you send it back. If you do like it, you send him the money (like $65 for mine I think). Go to NYFirearms.com and find some threads on holsters. You'll find plenty of suggestions and ideas.

In the process of getting my permit as well. $150 for fingerprints, geesh! The whole must have a gun rule is stupid. I'm going to get a lame .22 until I find out what I really want.
