My wife's ride failed emmissions today.

P0133 O2 Sensor Circuit Slow Response Bank 1 Sensor 1

The other one the guy said not to worry about but it is.
P0712 Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor "A" Circuit Low

On the left side it says it failed:

(MIL) Malfunction Indicator Lamp Engine On- Fail
(MIL) Malfunction Indicator Lamp Command Status- Fail
READINESS RESULTS

The "Check Engine" light on her car is generally on. Any advice.

Year as well. Depending on what version of OBD it is running will determine what workarounds or fixes that can be done.

O2 sensor should be fairly easy to replace if you wanted to replace it. Have you tried resetting the ECU by disconnecting the negative battery cable for ten minutes while the car is turned off? This should clear the CEL. Let the car warm up for about ten minutes after you reconnect the cable. Does the light come back on? Check your owners manual on how to check the tranny fluid and adjust accordingly.

Run the tank down to an eighth of a tank and pour in a 1/2 gallon (4 walgreens bottles) of Isopropyl Alcohol. She'll fast pass right away. Then drive the car to the gas station and fill up with good gas and then drive for a little while.

The car will be a little puttsy until the alcohol is run out of it though.

BTW - do this at your own risk. I don't take any responsibility in the information here. All information is based on my own experience.

$103.99 for the sensor since it's the pre sensor (cheaper of the 2)

I'm going to try this other thing. Will resetting this help only the check engine light or the O2 sensor? Don't I HAVE to get the O2 sensor fixed for it to pass?

Replace the 02 sensor you can not clear the code and go right up there it will still fail. All your monitars have to run inorder for it to pass. It could take several trips for the staties monitor to reset to passed.

I was told it was the "pre" (before the converter)
I could get one of these correct? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270092865908&fromMakeTrack=true

Is there ANYTHING else by what I posted that I would need to do?

I would get a OEM 02 sensor the aftermarket ones are junk if you want I could get you one for my cost.
I dont think the trans code will cause it to fail. And B1 S1 is before the cat . B1 S2 is after the cat

The 02 sensor will reset itself if it does not see a fault in 2 trips soif it goes of then comes back on you have a bad 02 sensor.

You will have to get the sensor to pass unfortunately. I would still reset the ECU once you replace it. Follow fade32's advice: buy the OEM or you will be regretting it later. The aftermarket sensors are sub standard and tend to fail prematurely.

Once the code is cleared be sure to drive the car on the highway for a 10-15 minutes so it completes a drive cycle and it will be ready for the test, otherwise you will get a systems not ready and it will fail again.

I had that happen on my truck. I hadn't driven it in a couple years and I jumped it to go get inspection. They jumped it to pull it into the shop. Then I jumped it to go from there to the emission station. I got a not ready. So I bought a battery, drove it w/my Durango plates a couple days and all was good. Now to sell it before something goes wrong. Funny thing is out of the
4 cars I had to do reliscencing on, it was the only one that didn't cost more money (other than the battery). The other 3 added up to 1500 in misc. repairs like tie rod ends, etc.

fade is right- get oem part. if you have the ecm reset after replacing the sensor you will have to drive the car enough to bring all the emissions monitors back online-- ive seen it take a week or more with some cars, but most are ok after a day or so.

the trans code wont cause a emissions failure- but can cause shift irregularities.

Get an O2 sensor from the dealer. :D

B1 S1 is before the cat . B1 S2 is after the cat roughly translated is "Be One, See One, before the cat is run over, Be One, See Two...did you hit a cat recently or two of them? :D

What it means is the O2 sensor is before the catalytic converter, hence bank 1 sensor 1, bank one sensor 2 is after the catalytic converter, which tells you that the o2 sensor before the catalytic converter is the one causing the issues.
