OK, my better half has been in town for 3 days now and after all the driving around we have done, and the million lakes we have seen, she has yet to see an alligator.

This may be common for everyone here, but us former Illinois residents are not used to seeing them.

Does anyone know of anyplace you don't have to pay to see them?? In the southeast part of town preferably. A nature preserve or park or something???

I just went to wakiwa springs around altemont last weekend. There was a gator there when we went canoing do the river...kinda cool and fun at teh same time! :)

yup - you can feed them hot dogs too - the one on i drive has one for sure but i think the one in altamonte springs has one as well. if you cant fine one there then take 417 and look in lake jesup - we almost always see one while we are driving there - but you have to have a trained eye to see them most of the time wekiwa would be good too - i have a good/bad story about a 12 footer from there! :-)

Ray, my boyo, we have plenty of 'gators here near Chicago. You must have not looked hard enough. Down by 31st and 1st Ave in Brookfield was the closest. No wonder the kids were never impressed...... they only come out for REAL pizza, Chicago style, not OM hot dogs !!!!

Lake Jessup is the most alligator populated lake in FL, if you don't see one driving on the bridge you aren't looking at the water.

I would'nt be feeding them hot dogs, or even going near them if I were you. For real, the FL Fish & game can arrest you. It's illegal to go near them, touch them, or anything they would consider harassment. That includes feeding them..;)

I know for a fact that the are Gators all over the place in Gainesville. Sidewalks, cars, bicycles...Everywhere you look.
