OT: How many Sprint customers are out there? [opinions wanted]

I am currently with Verizon and would like to bail on these idiots when it comes time to renew my contract in January. I just found out that Verizon "throttles" the data speed of the top 5% of its data users (I am in that 5%) and it has discontinued its program that discounts phones for loyal Verizon customers that renew their contracts. Verizon began "throttling" data speed when it introduced the iPhone. This way they could enjoy the huge profits of gaining all those new iPhone customers without having to worry about them slowing down the network (b/c the "throttling" would take care of this for the most part). I mean, why do the right thing and put that money towards improving your network, when you can be a scumbag and keep it for yourself....

So, I am looking to switch to a new network and Sprint looks pretty good right now b/c their plan w/ 450mins-talk, unlimited-text, and unlimited-data is ~$20 cheaper than Verizon's and AT&T's and since they don't have the iPhone (and I hope they never get it!), they don't have a huge amount of customers drawing on the network to cause them to try to justify "throttling" data speeds or discontinuing their unlimited data plans as Verizon just has.

I would like opinions on Sprint's 4G network as far as data speeds and coverage areas are concerned please. I barely talk on the phone at all so anything concerning phone calls is of very little importance.

For those of you that have made it to the end of this long post, thanks for reading and any opinions (both good and bad) are greatly appreciated.
 
I have been on Tmobile for many years and love it. I am running an Iphone 4 on it after unlocking it with a Gevey Sim card ($35). Works great and I am able to get bars in the basement at work which is an old fallout shelter.

EDIT: Oops, just saw that you didn't want an Iphone...disregard.
 
I am liking Android OS so far, but thank you for your opinion on T-mobile, as I am kinda considering that provider as well.
 
Ok I had squint for years there service rocks but let me tell you there customer service and billing dpt blow royally if you arnt buying something more from them they couldnt give a rats *** about you. I switched to t-mobile and havent looked back.... no more getting $600 bills for data overages when I had a unlimited plan and having to sit on hold for 2 hours while they tried to figure out why I was being billed for usage with a unlimited plan. stay away from sprint if you dont want a 2 year headache. I pay $134.14 a month like clockwork for 2 android phones with unlimited everything with t-mobile and I was paying $180 minimum for a single windows mobile phone with sprint.
 
I just switched to sprint in April from Tmobile (buncha morons - HORRIBLE customer service too) and I got the unlimited deal for 69.99. By the way, I am almost positive that it is 450 landline min, and unlimited mobile to mobile min. Anyway, I am very happy with the entire plan because it's pretty cheap compared to others, I got the HTC Evo Shift which is a sweet phone and because I ported my number over and switched from another company, I got a $125 bonus on my bill and some good discounts on the phone and accesories. They don't have that porting credit deal anymore, but I am assuming my January they will have some other good deals.

If you have someone else that can be on a phone plan with you, T-mobile just came out with the deal to beat all deals... $49.99 per line for unlimited everything when you have two people on the plan. However, I used to have T-mobile and I find that Sprint has better service.

The motto of T-mobile is the service you need at a price you can afford although I have to agree the service isnt all that great once you leave the chicagoland area... we went camping and the only one of us that had service was a cricket phone and we had sprint, tmobile and att also there without service go figure... the crappiest company was the only one that worked
 
switched from t-mobile to sprint last month and so far i am very happy with it.Got better price and no more dropped calls.
 
With Sprint for 6 months, great so far, good cust svc when I have called, no concerns at all. $69 plan with $10 4g charge.
 
+1 for Android. I'll never go back to the iPhone... but anyway, Sprint is definitely a good choice and is the only carrier with unlimited data. Granted sprint doesnt have 4g LTE yet but sprint's 4g is still plenty fast. They also don't charge extra for tethering or mobile hot spot.
 
At&t all the way. Unlimited data plan on a jailbroken iphone 4 = limitless. I get 6mb/sec download. Im on a family plan so i pay $85/month taxes included. I had sprint for 2 1/2 years before i got AT&T. AT&T has stepped up its game and will continue to do so. It kinda sucks for new customers though having a data cap and all. Im a heavy data user and AT&T still beats out the competition in data speeds, atleast in the DMV.
 
I have sprint, due to needing the walkie talkie feature , they have pretty good discounts if your going with a 2 year contract, the problem I have with them is there service isn't very good, dropped calls / to many dead zones, I wish I could change but I'm stuck because of the walkie talkie's that my business needs, if it wasn't for that I'd stay with verizion , they have much better range & less dropped calls
 
Can't you just go into Verizon and intimidate them into unlocking your data speeds Garen ??? LOL

I used Sprint for years before switching to AT&T for an iPhone 3G (still using it while waiting for the 5 (or 4s, whatever they name it).... I've heard rumors that the delay in the new iPhone was because they're trying to make it available on all carriers including sprint. Not sure the validity of that, but if it's true and I can get an iPhone with their unlimited $80 pack I'll definitely be changing providers back to sprint....

If you're going to get a new phone as well, get the Samsung Galaxy S2. Sprint is calling it the Samsung Within, it should be out soon and from everything I've seen is a beast of a phone.... I'm actually considering going to it over my iPhone......
 
1-1/2 years with Sprint and have never had an issue with their service or CS...
always available and helpful IME...after months of comparison shopping, I could not find a better deal ($99 Unlimited) than Sprint...
I had been with Verizon since their inception until 2008 (after "enjoying" their customer loyalty program...NOT!) when I switch to US Cellular and then to Sprint in 2010 because of their Unlimited plan...
Service has been very good for me with very little dropped call experience (usually experience dropped calls in the more rural areas of the Midwest while I'm traveling)

FYI, Sprint (as do other carriers) uses Verizon's towers in areas where their towers are limited or not close by...so overall coverage is very similar to Verizon in that regard.

FWIW, there is no perfect cellular carrier out there...It all depends on what you want from a carrier...best price/plan, best phone selections, quick upgrades, etc....just pick the one that offers you the most of what you want or need...

I've been with sprint for 6 or 7 years and out of contract since the first 2 years was up, so I'm free to jump ship anytime. I'll stick with them until they give me reason to do otherwise. Never an issue with service or customer service. I find the 69.99 plan + 10 data is more than enough for what I need.

The mobile hot spot feature on some of the phones is also great for tethering a laptop or tablet on the road. I have read of ways to get it free, but I tend to just have them prorate it for the time I'm traveling. It's 29.99 a month, so at $1 a day, whatever.

Regarding sprint 4g, I never ever get a signal indoors. Moving around the city outdoors, it goes in and out of 4g constantly, so I tend to just leave the 4g antennae off so as to avoid draining battery. When I do end up sitting somewhere that has a strong 4g signal, however, the speed is really pretty excellent in my opinion.

At any rate, it's just choosing the lesser of the evils for a 2 year stint...
 
I've been with sprint for four years, and so far so good. Customer service is almost always helpful. IMO, unlimited data plans are a must if you use a lot of their apps (browser, navigation, etc.).

As for their 4G, it comes and goes. I never had a 4G signal last longer than an hour without being interrupted. I hope it'll improve, but time will tell.
 
I switched from Verizon to Sprint and have had no problems. Customer service - needed to call 1 time and didn't have to wait - and they were great. I have the HTC Evo and really like the phone - by far the best phone i've had. Internet coverage is very good. No complaints at all.
 
If you have sprint and an android phone can you download "speedtest app" by Ookla and post up your results?

I have been curious to see their numbers.
