I was in Yosemite over the weekend to take advantage of the full moon. This is what I came away with. These were taken on consecutive nights between 9:00 and 10:00 PM

Thanks!

I got pretty wet getting that first one. It was also 28F in my tent yesterday morning but it was definitely worth it.

LOL!

Yeah i'll wait until summer time to head up there. I hate the cold.

Those are beautiful shots! I can't believe those are night time shots. Shows how much I know about photography.

Ok, what am I missing. How do you get a rainbow at night? I thought you needed the sun for that.

All you need is enough light at the right angle. With a lunar rainbow, or moonbow, you generally can't see it with the naked eye; you don't have enough color receptors. To see it, you have to take a long exposure with the camera.

UH?

Nevermind, I just point and shoot

I'm still new to the DSLR world, so I don't know if I can phrase this question correctly. How much of this image was achieved with just the camera settings and lens choice, and how much achieved through post-processing (i.e. Photoshop)? I wanted to ask this same question when your posted your poppy pics. What lens did you use to capture this image?

It's almost all technique. I shoot in RAW format so every image has to have some sort of post processing. I use Adobe Lightroom to do the RAW conversion and then these both got pulled into Photoshop to add a curves layer, to adjust contrast, and some sharpening. The poppy pictures got even less than that. I did them all without leaving Lightroom. ;)

Both of these images were taken with a Canon 5D and a Canon 24-70 f/2.8L on full manual control. Exposure ended up being 30 seconds at ISO 400 and f/4

Thanks folks. "no chain jerking" involved. It's just a matter of putting yourself in the right position, at the right time and knowing a few tricks to get the shot.

Cheers
