OT Panther Chameleon

Who has one. I have always wanted one, and my boys keep pestering me for an animal like a lizard, bearded dragon, etc. I cant stand any of those, I like the mellowness of chameleons, and I used to keep quite a few snakes prior to having the kids. Blood pythons, brazilian rainbow boas, milk snake, carpet pythons, redtails. I was thinking of building my own enclosure and putting it in our hangout room. If someone does have one, where the heck did you get it? I see places online, but its hard to know who to trust.

I got my panthers from screameleons and would highly recommend them. If you have a question three years after your purchase they will spend as much time as needed to help you out, I really can't say enough about them. I've bought two from them and when I'm ready for another I'll be getting it from them. That being said if your boys want something that they can handle constantly a chameleon probably isn't what you are looking for and please make sure to check out their care requirements before hand and make sure you want to deal with keeping crickets and gut loading and all that good stuff. Since you've kept herps before I'm sure you are familiar with some of that. If you've got questions feel free to ask or if you want the expert opinion you can ask Vince at screameleons I'm sure he'd be happy to help.

did you know you can also just have them in a tree? I've also been looking into getting one since my red eye tree frog passed

Sounds good. Tree, no cage, crapping all over the place and crickets in my living room. Not sure Jen would go for that. I had 2 red eye tree frogs back in the day, they were my favorite pet. Takes awhile getting used to them at night with their vocalization.

they do indeed make some noise. I'm gonna probably be doing this right along with you, so keep me posted. I want to go with a Jackson or carpet

I know a breader I don't know which type I think Jackson's .....if you want me to get her info I can pm me of you are interested
..my son is all over me to since are poison dart frog died.....

How hard are chameleons to care for? I have always wanted one but never really researched anything or went any further than wanting one but they are incredibly cool. I have had lizards and snakes in thebpast but never anything cool like a chameleon

Check out that site I mentioned and click on the learn section. They've got a lot of good info. They have some of the best examples of panthers from different locales I've seen. The Cham in my avitar was my blue nosy be, he had awesome color especially when he was fired up. I guess it's like keeping a reef, you can do many different way, but I personally wouldn't put them in a tree without an enclosure unless they had their own dedicated room.

I have had veiled's in the past. Really cool, only downside is the crickets. My wife freaked when my initial batch had gotten loose and I had bought 1,000 of them. In the summer you can keep them outside. All the stories about them being difficult to keep arent true. You just have to meet their needs. Anyway, if anyone is interested I have a store bought screened enclosure on the small side, and a custom made larger enclosure, approx. 4' x 3' open air. I would be willing to trade either or both for some frags.

Well I mentioned to my wife yesterday that I was looking into chameleons and I thought she was gonna kill me, lol. She said the only way she will allow another pet in the house is if I get rid of my reef and we all know that's not gonna happen. I still can't believe how mad she got when I said I was researching them, lmao.
