I would love to be able to use my camera on other functions beside auto.

I have looked at http://www.uwphotographyguide.com/ and read through an underwater digital photography book. I still don't understand ISO, F-stops, aperture, etc. I don't get how I am supposed to know which setting to use at which time.

I just bought a strobe and wide angle lens for my underwater housing. Now I need to figure out how to use them.

help...?!?!?

My set up:

Canon Powershot G5: (i know old school) I don't even know how to use this one. So I am NOT purchasing another until this one is mastered.Ikelite Housing:
Ikelite DS-125 Strobe
Ikelite W-20 Wide angle lens

Lol! I just taught a class on this - you should have signed up! :) Let me know when you have some time and I can stop on over and explain.

Check out amazondotcom and get yourself a good book specifically for your camera, that's what I did for my d90 and helped out tremendously

I am a professional photographer and am happy to help out anyway I can. Let me know!

you lack photos of your tank :) :)

Cant wait to see the photos you start producing, remember, storage is cheap, take lots of photos and practice what you like and then try to learn what you did to attain that particular photo.

Here is the way that I learned....

Youtube!!!

cameralabs channel is a great start. Just search DSLR tips on his channel and he will explain it all. Just watch all of his videos and you will find out how each thing affects the other.

He has two websites.
1- cameralabs.com
2- DSLRtips.com

Great websites and free!

If you are use Manual Function of the Canon G5 then you worry and learn about aperture and speed. If you use automatic (P mode) then the camera will control the aperture and speed for you. The ISO is depend where you take the picture (dark, lot of sun, shade...).

+1

Take lot of pictures with different aperture, speed and ISO then load in the computer. Check out the info of each picture, you will see and learn from there. You can practice with your aquarium with the housing, strobe and wide angle lens if there is enough room to put the camera in.

Unfortunately, I don't have a dslr :(

I knew you were going to say that! Thats ok....they still work under the same principles! The only thing that youll find with a smaller camera like yours is that you will not have the same amount of control. But, each camera functions the same way in its most simple form.....and that is to capture LIGHT. So if you want to know how your camera works....learn how a real camera works (even an old film camera works the same way as a DSLR) and youll be able to work any camera!:dance:

I have been a photographer for 13 years. I take fantastic photos, many in manual & still don't have a real understanding of those functions. O think most of my pics are just dumb luck. :worried:
