OT - RC Airplanes

ok thats good to know, hate to see nice plane go down. I was gonna say he was flying the sim pretty good from what I saw. :)

It's probably going to be on Sunday when I go to Smyrna. I'll let you guys know when I am sure what time. I think we are taking the kids to the Star Wars exhibit in Huntsville on Saturday. A bunch of guys fly helis at the high school there. I don't really think anyone flies planes there and don't know if they even allow them. I also got a new engine for my 600N so now I have an electric and a nitro flying.

What sim do you guys have? If it is Phoenix we can all fly online.

Ouch Rick! That was a nice plane.

I won't be flying the Extra by myself for a bit, but from what I've read this particular plane is one of the more forgiving models. I don't want to see it go down, so I'm probably going to take out my Funtana and Stik and keep flying them for a bit before I go hardcore with the Extra. Hopefully the new landing gear will be here early next week for my Funtana.

I think I'm going to pick up an Edge 540 1/4 scale gasser as well. It shall be called "Business Time" if I buy it (ask Brandon)

Getting my groove back in the air is taking longer than what I'd like, I've been hitting the sims and the field as much as I can but I'm still more rusty than what I'd like. Although I'm getting better :)

Sounds good Zach. I havent flown in a while. I had 2 of those Edge 540's like in the pic, both pretty much looked the same. I rebuilt the last one, but just did not finish it. There wing load makes it where they have to be landed pretty hot, which makes it fun. They are a great plane to fly. You will love that Extra also.

This is my next plane, i think I told you about them, they are the Fiber Fusion, composite balsa/carbon fiber

You are making it hard to not want one of these! Reef keeping Is bad enough of a expense. But that was just Insane Fun even to just watch that guy fly that heli, I'll have to start Virtual flying maybe.

That is a very cool plane.

wow, that video is SICK! I am guessing i dont want to know how much THIS hobby costs!

Thats just the begining. You can add a video camera and some video gogles and fly. Its pretty crazy. Video Piloting or FPV.

That's my next addition. Flat screen TV and goggles and a camera system

Its so friggin cool Zach. I have flown over a mile from my house with the gogles on. Eagle tree makes some awesome telemetry stuff now for FPV. I sold all my gear last year. If I didnt have this money pit reef tank  I could get some new stuff :crazy1:

Awesome, I will check into what they have available! The video on their homepage with OSD is what I'm looking for. This is going to be cool.

Actually it looks like I won't be going to Huntsville on Sat. so I may go flying in Smyrna then. If I do I will probably be there about noon or so.

BTW, I found a picture of the big plane I used to have. It was a Hanger 9 Cap 232 with a 3W60 engine in it. It flew great. I crashed it when I got too low over the trees doing flat spins. I panicked and went to full throttle while still holding full up elevator. It snapped over and dove into the trees.

I also still have the scar where my arm got into that prop. :D I was adjusting the engine at home and started the engine while I held it from moving with the other hand right behind the cowl. I bent down the pick up something and dropped my arm a little bit and felt a little tingle on my forearm. I looked at it an blood was gushing. I hardly even felt it and the engine never even stuttered.

Also, if you are looking at radios have a look at the new DX8. It just came out and looks pretty nice for the price.

That's a nice plane there Mike!

Looks like I will be picking up an Ultra Stik 120 on Sunday. They are ugly beasts but I really like the way mine flies. I need another one. I will be putting a DLE 30CC on it and I believe I will be picking up some camera equipment to load in it as well. Eagle Tree has me fascinated. Perfect excuse to purchase a nice flat panel to load in the car and get a new inverter.

I think I'm taking my Funtana 90 out tomorrow too. Not sure yet. That plane worries me a bit.

I thought it was pretty funny, given the subject. :)

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm just watching and trying to see if I can get a good 2.4Ghz for not too much $. :) Hitech is actually looking pretty good, to be honest. We'll see.

What worries you about the Funtana, Zach?

Brandon

I had a few Hitec radios years ago and wasn't really impressed with them. Had all kinds of glitches and such. Of course that was years ago before 2.4 so maybe they are better now. One thing I really like about JR/Spektrum is that I can use their satellite receivers with my flybarless controller and not have to have a regular receiver.
