OT - RC Airplanes

Good to hear, Mike. I've been thinking about grabbing a Spektrum 2.4Ghz module for my 8U, but I'm undecided for now. I may just try to pickup a used Futaba 2.4Ghz module instead... we'll just have to see. :)

What is a satellite receiver? Is it just a second receiver used simultaneously?

I've been looking over Spektrum's website and they have some really, really nice receivers... I love the ones that accept 2 Lipos as a fail-safe and have BECs built in, too! That's just sweet.

Brandon

Yeah, Spektrum just seems to be a little more innovative to me. The satellite receiver is a separate small receiver that is connected to the main receiver. 2.4Ghz can be masked sometimes by carbon fiber or metal I think so it basically prevents you from loosing a signal.

The guys at Smyrna were invited to a new field today so I went and checked it out. It is more out in the country and is a pretty nice field. Not quite as nice as Columbia but there are a lot of heli fliers there. I like it a lot better than flying at the school since they have baseball practice out there and little kids are running around sometimes.

I've been pretty happy with my Futaba so far.

Picked up the Ultra Stick 120 today. Not every day you find a full scale Pitts Special in someone's house  Pretty cool. Ordering the motor for it tomorrow, trying to decide between the DLE and Evolution 26gt. I think I'll end up getting the Evo. Then it's time to plan the camera setup :)

Neat! Was it at Cane Ridge Park? That's where I'm thinking about flying. Its about 15-20 minutes from my apartment and has a nice 400'x100' paved runway. Not too bad. Now I've got to find a good, used trainer... I'm not about to start trying to learn again with this 3D plane. ;)

Brandon

No, it was off of Mona rd. right off Jefferson Pike. It is some private property that has a grass airstrip on it. You go back in the woods and then it opens up into a nice field.

Huh? Can you elaborate a bit on the cane ridge place? I need to make up my mind on moving pretty quickly and the flying location is holding me back.

That is Bill Hemple flying with Jason Shulman pretending to be on the bottom of the plane. I used to think a lot of Jason Shulman until he was arrested in a sex sting about a week ago.:thumbdown

yea, it seems to be a blowup doll

Sex sting? That's not good. Chris Hansen type stuff?

Hey Brandon, you don't happen to want to buy a used JR 9303 do you? I am really wanting one of those DX8s when they come out. I might consider selling mine if I get one.

Also, went by PAC's RC Hobbies today... freaking awesome store! They had great prices (most were the same or cheaper than Tower Hobbies) and also had a great selection. I picked up a gallon of Omega 15% 4-stroke for $16.49. That's quite a bit cheaper than Tower Hobbies, which is $23 before all the extra shipping junk! Good stuff!
