OT-Where to Go Freshwater Fishing

Allons-y!
It's been a long while since I enjoyed a leisurely, lazy afternoon of pond/lake or river fishing and was wondering where in CT I could go to start up again? I'm assuming I'll need a fishing license too? Any info you all could provide would be appreciated! Thanks!

there are TONS of places.... the biggest question is, what are you looking to catch? If you are bringing your kids out for the first time, then any pond or lake with a dock woudl be good to catch sunnies.

Besides bait and tackle shops you can get fishing licenses at Walmart. Until recently I went freshwater fishing 20-30 times per year (14' aluminum boat), and found good small and largemouth bass fishing in Lakes Lillinonah, Housatonic, and Zoar. The CT river has good fishing with many species, but on weekends the jetskiers and big-boaters get tiresome. Are you talking fishing from the shore or from a boat?

I'm just looking to catch some good eating type fish but am not into trout fishing. Crappies, blue gill, bass, that kinda stuff. I'd prefer to fish from the shore but if you can recommend a place that might rent out rowboats, that would work too. Thanks for the info so far folks!

Good eating? I don't know if you can even find fish in CT that is safe to eat, with all the mercury, PCB's, and chlordane. When you get your license, ask for the anglers guide. It will tell you what waters have elevated chemical levels and how often to eat fish from there. Happy fishing!

Dang....I didn't even think that our waters were that polluted. Goes to show you how long it's been since I have been fishing!

Lake Quonnipaug in Guilford is the lake I grew up on. Learned to fish there and it still holds some of the better stocks in the state.

If you want to fish to eat of shore I would go saltwater fishing. Catch yer self a nice striped bass or blue and chow down. Pretty much the mouth of any major river at dusk or later will almost garrantee you catch something. Careful with a small trout or bass poles though, if you catch a kluncker he'll snap it right in half. You can also do a charter for about $40, $5-10 pole rental.

Smaller bluefish are better for eating, they haven't been exposed too long. Around 18", fried with some bread crumbs, mm-mm good.

I guess in that case I'm lucky I haven't been able to go that much, not that my luck catching has been any better.

Oh yeah, the smaller stripers are good too, but there is a 27" restriction.

Went diving in the Portland Quarry the other day, there's some bigg'ns in there. Of course I'm not sure I'd eat em with all the junk on the bottom.

The mouth of a cove in Niantic is the best spot I've found. I don't know the name of the cove but there are two charter boat companies that operate out of it and a marina. The charter boat company names are the Mijoy and the Blackhawk 2. Look up their address's to find it. You go behind the marina and there is a small railroad bridge you drive under to a beach. If we have had a lot of rain then under the bridge is flooded and you either need a truck, or you have to roll up your pants and get dirty. I've also heard the mouth of the h

I've also heard the mouth of the
