Our 375 Gallon project

Thansk guys! I'll see if I can get some better shots one of these days.

melev- If it makes you feel any better, my cabinets are not completely finished yet. I'd say 97% but I still have some trim work to do (like baseboards and corner moulding). Of course now that summers here I don't know if I'll finish it before you do :)

Scott... Im setting up a new tank and am looking at running 2 250W Phoenix 14Ks.... Are you happy with their performance, color? How often do you change the bulbs?

well my tank should be here tommorrow i be posting some pics soon. thanks for all the info scott. im sure be asking other question soon

Poknsok-
Thanks- for never having made cabinets before I think it turned out fairly well. I really love the color and it took many many sample stains to get the color we ended up with.

Solenowski-
We’re very happy with the phoenix bulbs. We are probably going to be adding some T-5’s just to fill in some gaps but the color and performance is great. We are running them on Icecap ballasts and depending on what ballast you use- they will have a different light spectrum. You also can’t beat the price- we usually get our in group buys for about $50 (looks like we may have a group buy starting now for $45 each). We change ours about once a year- that reminds me…..almost time to change them again.

Relia-
Be sure to take pics of the tank arriving! The fun has just begun for you :D. Be sure to post some pics as well.

I am in awe. some day when i grow up i too will get to have a truly big tank

had question scott is your tank 3/4 on the top and bottom they just delivered my tank and 1/2 on the bottom and the top but they told me that it would be 3/4 all around

Ours is 3/4" except the bottom which is 1/2" (pretty normal). The back is actually 1" since they added a piece of 1/4" black to the 3/4". I would be concerned about the top not being 3/4"- we almost went with 1-1/4" on top but didn't feel like the extra $500 was worth it(wouldn't have needed as much bracing). Depending on your cross bracing the top needs to be at least as thick as the tank if not thicker.

Von_Rahvin-
Looks much better without the darn ceiling fan :D. I've been wanting to raise the fan but I can't find a shorter pole that matches- I should probably do a little searching online to see if I can find one. Thanks for making it look better!

2 days.... 2 days is how long it takes to read this thread without any type of major aneurisum. I currenty have a 30gal freshwater and have thinking of wandering into the salt water world, my buddy (member showtime305) sends this site to me and all I can say is WOW. Front to back I've read every detail, and even began noting some of your specimens I especially like. Although completely out of my price range (the Ducati box in the garage also gave it away) it still sets a bar for me to one day work towards. I DID happen to notice you mentioned moving to Texas/selling the house? Care to make my first build an easier one? Tank for sell house included?

hey scott i had question is your sump 1/2" or 3/8" im coming along with project pretty well just collecting all the parts which is very long list byway. i will be uploading some pics soon .

mlrtime99- Sent you a PM but once again- Welcome. 2 days huh? Guess I've never sat down and read it from start to finish :D. Hope to see you around and have fun in this great hobby.

RELIA- I used 3/8". Normally on a tank this large I wouldn't suggest 3/8" but since we have a few shelves and several baffles adding extra stregth to the sides it works good. Since it's a sump it's normally only 1/2 full so that helps as well. If you were going any bigger, or less baffles, or have more water I would probably suggest 1/2" and 3/8" for the bottom to be safe. It certainly is a lot of parts but one of the best parts of the whole project is putting it all together! Post some pics when you get some!

this is one the most inspirational threads i have ever had the pleasure of reading....thanyou so much for your pictorial account of one the most impressive tanks i have ever seen...
