Our 40g Island waterfall

That's crazy man! I have one that is 18" out of the water and the water is 14" deep in my shallow reef tank. And I'll probably do one or two in my display refugium next to my new 125g DT. But I see enough mangroves every day where I live that I don't need them inside! LOL!

Pretty cool though. And like your tank, very different which I like.

What an amazing journey. I love these tank build sagas that continue to impress me. One thing I haven't seen or maybe I overlooked. When you had the tank crash on that 40g display, did you lose anything from your 500?

Thanks Ron I got some new pics I've been meaning to upload things are coming along nicely :) totm in the year 2030 is what I'm go by for lol

Your tank is looking good!

Wow, those mangroves are incredible!

Thanks man glad you like it , post crash and things are starting to come together finally lol

Hey glad your on board things like this inspire me to go all out even more, I use to design aquariums with hundreds of builds under my belt so I wanted to this be an example that we're all not limited to a standard box of water , personally I'm a huge fan of theme tanks with the volcanoe build being one of my faves :) so sadly as it was a power issue we lost everything tank related including the prop systems , I went from hundreds and hundreds of types of different Zoas to none at all lol it now feels weird going from the largest collection in the country to looking for a simple candy apple redd lol

More pics coming :)

It's interesting, but I imagine making pods takes a large amount of energy. Nutrient export just got more efficient.

Really love my galaxy s7 pics I have the iPhone6 and there's just no comparison between them I'll be getting the iPhone 7 here soon so will see how the new phone compared although every iPhone I've had had been lacking in the camera department lol

Oh for sure , here in canada we don't see mangroves only what's in aquariums or pots and the average joe either kills it or passes it on in a year or so and this eventually leads to a plants death , seeing some plants over ten years in age and watching them currently do the budding thing imo up here is quite impressive :)

These are not tied into a system but a running fuge all to them selves :) it did belong to a system many years ago but that tank was shut down and the plants kept going as they're just to nice to abandon :)

White mangroves doing great starting to break they're seeds , soon will be time to acclimate to salt water :)

My reds are also doing great finally sprouting roots and soon will have first leaves :)

Still have around 500-600 of these lol

Thanks for sharing all this. It's an awesome setup, it's given me a number of ideas. And it's good for beginners like me to read of all your ups and downs. :(

One thing: I apologize since I must of missed it, but I looked and didn't find it. Why did you remove your waterfall? Since you removed it, it must have caused you problems?

Thanks alot im glad you like it and we hope to see more unique builds come from this tank , this is just a simple 40g tank and nothing too high tech about it just a little bit of preplanning and a bit of creativity :)

So the waterfall originally was designed to sit inside of the tank but i made a last minute decision to place it on the rimless tank in the back corner , the waterfall was built using expanding foam and epoxy then coated in mortar my fatal flaw there was over time the mortar wore thin in the main basin , though the waterfall was sealed from the outside eventually the inside seal gave and the foam soaked up the water and eventually a drip started out the back i made several attempts to seal them but they just popped up in new places, at first i had planned to rebuild it but then we moved houses and the waterfall had to come off anyways so i cut it all out and then decided to just go with the island only :)

Removing it was easy as it had its own seperate water line not tied into the islands outlets i simply removed the " T " and valve and then the old line

So fish ideas lol

I'm at a spot now where we would like to add some new fish were going to focus on smaller fish like gobys and blennys.....the male ember blennys has my eye :)

No more pistol shrimp though lol

Hey Denny just caught up on your build. Tank looks awesome! Way to bounce back after the crash. Looking forward to when you start fragging those zoas!
