Our 40g Island waterfall

heres some pics of where we are now with this , its a full rebuild from scratch but its on its way lol really loving the halide pendants and restarted dosing vinegar today give her a few months and we should be back to normal but in the meantime enjoy some pics of what we have been able to do so far. we purchased 350+ mangroves and are eventually going to hook them up to the system and incorporate them into the display other than that its just been slowly stocking and letting the system recoup lol

heres some completely random pics lol

so the things we have added have been doing well , showing growth on the sps and all zoas and other corals are doing pretty good , still not the prettiest thing thing in the world but were on our way back:)

Glad to see you are sticking with it. I was reassigned at my work and had to get rid of my old reef due to a move. I didn't follow RC much for a couple years. I was sad to see a lot of veteran reefers suffering misfortunes and getting out of the hobby completely. The reset is looking really good!

Congrats on the recovery/comeback!

I'm just starting over after losing my 180G sps/lps DT to a silicone leak after 6 years (the tank was older than that). Now I'm getting to redesign for a 125g DT and I can't wait to start doing rockscaping. I'd never seen your thread before and some of the things I was considering, you have already done.

Keep up the good work.

Already looking good. :D

thanks alot shes got a long way to go but were at least on the way:):)

thanks , i've been in the hobby to long to quit cold turkey and we really enjoy this tank so we never really planned a shut down or to quit but we also new it wouldn't be a fast process and with our first baby here now this time its going to be a slow stock well at least for now so we have been trading and buying small where as the old me bought bought bought all i could lol, thanks for the kind words its def going to be something again in the coming year:)

thanks ron , we really love the aquascape and for 2 years now its worked flawlessly for us so we didnt want to change much in the tank itsself but the light had to go so i hummed and hawwed over what to do and decided these island tanks are best suited with pendant lighting and the old school reefer in me wanted to go back to halides , ill likely add some led supplement in the future but for now im really digging the 20k moguls and gives us the pendant looks we wanted for some time now:)

Update :)

Tank is doing stellar and is making a great comeback , today we rehomed the sailfin and hippo tang that came from a friends shutdown we bought. We have added some new Zoas and the sps are doing extremely well , the magnificent seems to have picked out an area it's happy with so will see how long that lasts lol we have a new addition for our Refugium coming tomorrow but I'll wait to see how he does before I get my hopes up lol

Mangroves are on their way and we have a setup made for them hopefully they grow tall quickly so we can add to the display again :)

Halides are going great and vinegar is kicking in we're getting good growth and colours are good to , I may add some more sps here soon but I've been holding off adding to much to the waterfall its self until I can nail down the mags preferred area he's got a good sting lol

Here's a couple

So for the first time in 2yrs we have had to do maintenance on the water lines that feed the island , there's a few spots that are exposed to light and they have slowly been restricted by the growing Coraline , thinking I'd have to replace the tubing with new tubing which really would have been a bit difficult I figured first I would fish something through the lines , so I grabbed a coat hanger cut it up into one long wire and fished it down the lines and worked incredibly well within ten mins I was able to scrape all the Coraline off and the lines are now good as new , glad I didn't decided to take it all apart first lol

Still have big plans on finishing the stand here soon , been preoccupied with the new baby and working out of town but I really need to get this done :)

Looking into some supplemental LEDs to use for when the halides are off thinking on adding something cheap and not to bright just a bit of night time viewing :)

I came home last night after a shift out of town love seeing the progress this baby is making vinegar is still being dosed at about 12ml per day and everything is showing new growth so enjoy some random pics

This got stung by the magnificent so I moved it to its own branch with the other acros and seems to be making a complete comeback

Pink lemonade growing fast and getting its actual Colors to finally show

Some tank shots

And here's a pic of our Refugium we plan to add somethings bit different down there will have more on this soon

I'm adding some JF blood shots today I'm stoked about that , as well were planning our CUC for the tank as we're getting some algae build up so combined with the vinegar let's see if we can get this fixed up :)

Again.......loving the halides best decision ever lol

Jeez what a mess to come home to, but it looks like you're making a hasty comeback, tanks looking good.

How's the Magnifica Anemone doing for you? How long have you had it? They like high light and flow, and if they can find it a nice flat rock perched as high as they can get. Hopefully it'll do well for you, they are stunning if you can get a healthy one. :)

Thanks alot :) the mag i havent had long but hes doing great years ago i had one that got to 24" in size and i learned that they love light more often than not find them at waters surface lol this one is showing healthy traits for this species its sticky to the touch actively moving and its foot always has a firm grasp , typical for this anemone is it moves alot until it fonds its sweet spot mine is still all over the place lol love it though and jes currently under 2x175w halides in a 14" tall tank even with all that light you can almost slways find him at waters surface lol

For example here's his spot he picked for tonight lol

Makes planning corals hard but patience eventually prevails lol

Looks good, overflow kind of scares me but maybe you don't have a lot of gph going through it. :p

I have one in QT right now that I'm treating with cipro

Hopefully I can get mine healthy and into the DT, I have a tower I built for it so I shouldn't have any issues with it wandering. :D
