Our Mini 425 Ocean

You know it babe!

I need to get a bigger chain though...

'scuse me while I put on my beer goggles, and vodka clip-on sunglasses.

So what is the plan for your overflows? How are you going to lock them down further?

Those Gold sequence pumps are a new thing. Does anyone have one yet? I know they have a slightly higher rate of flow but I don't think it's enough to justify the difference in price.

Lunch Pics Coming. I have been slacking too much yard work...

Flavoor Flavvv...

BAX- The Box for the pump is huge

For the overflows I might try some rain gutter gaurd. I saw it on a tank here and it looked promissing

The difference in price is due to increased efficiency (less watts), not increased flow. The Dart Gold does have more flow than the Dart, but the Hammerhead Gold actually has less flow than the standard Hammerhead. There's also a Super Dart Gold with even more flow, and I wish there was a Super Hammerhead Gold, but I think the Dart is the only model that's 'super Gold' sized.

I could not find them on the MDM web site when i checked in there yesterday. Almost like the line has been sold?

Tbittner- Sorry missed that question..

Bax- I thought this was a recirculating pump model but all I have is a gate valve on the bottom and a hose on the top between the 2 injectors. Can you give me some pics of the plumbing on yours. I know you said you were using it for rocks at the time just not sure if you had any good pics.

Dudster- Thanks..I was thinking the same thing. I would love to upgrade my return pump to barracuda or hammerhead. If it uses the same wattage as the dart it would be worth a little extra.

John - I forgot what site I was looking at but they were already sold out. I think was the one of the sites about the reef flo skimmers.

Thats is what scares me about this skimmer the Marlin power Hungry Pump. This thing is way too big I need to do some research if I can get away with a smaller pump or less wattage pump.. I know it needs a high pressure pump but this Marlin is almost 3 times bigger and almost uses 3 times the wattage. I really don't care about the noise since it is in my Garage. The louder the better. ehehehhehehe

Here it is. I am posting on the MRC club to see if I can get some advice on the installation. Open to any ideas. Then I am off to Home Depot and hopefully get this beast running tonight.

Thanks again for any input..

Glad you got it in one piece. And that pump is the bomb. so many things you can do to lower the electrical usage too.

I am drawing my new sump paln. I kept the fuge high like you said so i cna use a manifold later. I am just trying to figure out if I should put the skimmer on the shelf above the sump or make room on the floor. I am not sure if it matter if the pump feeds from the sump for the skimmer.

Or if I run my overflow pipe directly to it I am not sure how I hook up the pump and the rest of the plumbing.

You could just run the skimmer 12 hours a day. That monster might only need 8 hours a day to take every form of live and dead matter out of your water.

You could run the drain from the overflow to a T, have one end of the T connected to your sump, the other end connected to the pump. This way, the water from the overflow will be suctioned into the pump but you also have the water in the sump available to ensure that your pump never runs out of water.

Tbittner - I was thinking about something like that. Have the skimmer run when the lights are off or something like that. Great idea for the T thanks. That save me from drilling for a bulkhead and I get water right from the drain

Well I just realized I cant put it on a shelf it is too tall. So it has to go on the floor next to the fuge or I could cut the shelf in half above the sump and put it in the sump.

I think I will pop it on the floor. This means I will have to cut off a few feet of my work bench. No biggie..I think I will make a little stand so it is off the floor.

John - What other ways can I save electric?

Too hard for me to follow all these threads and keep everything straight to give you a decent answer without a complete review. Got a drawing I can look at?

John = I have changed my sump drawing like 5 times on my thread. I am working on the final one now. When you were talking about electric I thought you were talking about the skimmer.

Dudester- Your lights are sweet... Tank, everything...

Eric, I was serious, not looking for a plug to my tank. If you use all T5's it will directly reduce your power usage tremendously, not to mention the relief it will give your chiller. T5's might not be for you, but it's worth considering.

Eric

Here it is running with the live rock. You can see the pump pulls off a fitting in the lower box then feeds in to the becketts.

The skimmer is fed by a bulk head between the injectors.

If yours is not recirculating, all you have to do is drill a bulk head to feed the pump.
