overskimming ha!!

I run a 624 aerofoamer and ill tell you what if you want a quality built and great skimmer reef concepts is the place to get one... how many aerofoamer owners out there????

I have found this to be one of the better and more stimulating (no, not like that) dicussion's I've participated in. I would like to see it continue....it has the potential for a great thread of the month or year.

BTW, I hope you've all read Randy's artical on skimming in this month's RK magazine. I have to say, it is by far the best and most in-depth article I have ever read on skimming, and I have read just about all of them.

It sure is a popular thread. It's one that actually contains some interesting posts, too- way better than just another "ID this Acro"

I think more monotony is the chemistry forum ... Help my alk is low (BTW ive actually posted this )

Had to pull the xenia today ... they look terrible .. probably hours away from total recall to the big red sea in the sky.. they are in a friends tank now and will probably make a full and healthy recovery.

I absolutely love the aero foamer ... I have an "afro-foam" coming from the riser tube in the skimmer.

I was thinking of feeding the foamer with 2 pumps instead of just one to get more pressure into it. Im getting amazing ammounts of skimmate out of the tank in both skimmers. (for the record I dont think that skimmers can compete just seems to me that they would be both not tuned to peak conditions if they were both not working)

I have added a small magfloat to the skimmer to help clean it out those of you who have one know how difficult it can be to keep clean.. every time I clean out the cup pon the asm I also clean the collar as well as the riser. This would not usually be done in the aerofoamer sence there is a collective drain (5 gallon)

Up to 3 gallons of skimmate today. all of the other corals look pretty good to speak of.

Xenia do best with significant levels of DOC's- no wonder they fared poorly with the additional skimming!
LPS and SPS can benefit from the cleaner environment.
I just watched the video that was posted earlier in this thread and your skimmer performance can be improved a lot by using a more appropriate (read: more powerful pressure rated) pump. The skimmer body should be entirely filled with dense whitewater. An Iwaki 70 can push that skimmer to it's limit, but you'll need to either throttle it back or decrease the airflow into it's Beckett.

FWIW: I built a venturi driven swirling action skimmer that would form carbohydrate sludge on the sidewalls of the contact chamber as described.

I was thinking of running the mag24 and an iwaki 55 together and using a T into 1 line with more pressure and hopefully the same results as you have mentioned.

Thanks gary you are "DA MAN" :)

This won't give you the results you're looking for.
We need to see if ri still has his 70RLT available. You should PM him. :D
