Owners Thread: Innovative Marine Fusion 40

Well Heard rave reviews about the HW Marinemix Reefer salt.. First try with it I'm guessing i got a REALLY bad batch.

Started to have HORRIBLE ammonia issues in the quarantine tank, and no matter how many water changes I did it still skyrocketed. Reached 0.8ppm.

So I decided just by chance to check my RO/DI water and the fresh mixed saltwater.. RO/DI was at 0ppm, fresh mixed saltwater was at 0.8 ppm.

I am just lucky I didnt put this in my DT with all the corals.. that is a HUGE amount of ammonia!

be happy, very very happy.

I learned my lesson with a bad batch of RSCP salt. I believed a premium salt mix would not have batch issues. Boy was I wrong...

There again is a lesson for those who don't.

Test before you use the first mix of any new batch of salt!

Tragedy averted..

I keep looking at this branch that's coming out on my Acro and thinking ooh that's new, only to look at a picture and realize its not and I got my hopes up for no reason.

Reading Mrs. Fish's post about the fans made me realize that Summer's coming and I'm definitely gonna need a fan on my tank since we have HOT summers and my tank isn't in the coolest room of the house.

So I'm in the process of building one using the black laser-cut acrylic with custom "Reef" themed fan covers and mount for the tank. Should have the fans in Monday and will post results.

P.S. Red, The acrylic for yours came in tonight, will cut it out tomorrow and send it Monday.

Here's the fan cover for the cooler

No worries. Nice cover!
I have one of those little 2 fan hang on coolers but yet to need it. We keep the house in a good cooling range while at work. Never gets above 80.
Been watching temps at noon from the radion. It hovers at 79.8. I can deal with that. I'll set up a programming statement to shut it down if it hits 83 just in case...don't think I'll be kicking the intensity up for a while..coral is all responding well to the current program. If anything, I'll cut the clouds for another cycle. Just in a week the Duncan sprouted a new head. Scolys all plump. Gonipora at full extension...
Worth every penny that g3pro....

Finally grabbed a quick photo of the progress while I didn't have anything significant going on. Just letting the denitrifying bacteria cook at the moment. Thanks to everyone for all your continued feedback and advice. Been a crazy busy week at work, so I haven't been as active in the forums.

Tank's looking good.

I have the exact opposite problem, I spend too much time on the forums. Lol

Thanks much! I have a feeling I'll be digging into the forums again soon. Getting impatient to get some livestock in there, but know I need to continue letting the tank cycle. Test and wait, test and wait, test and wait.

Well great. set the dosing pumps up to dose ~10 ml of alk and 6 ml of calcium over the course of the day. Turned it on auto and about 5 min later I get an email saying PH alarm..

Luckily the dosing pumps turned off but it dosed 39ml of Alkalinity in about 2 minutes.

Looks good! Nice rock work.
Wish I could say the same about forum activity.

Thanks much. I'm glad you took the time to check out the rocks. I read through the forums, watched some YouTube videos, and gave it a shot. As soon as we get past mothers' day, a trip to the pediatrician, and a replaced hard drive on the iMac, I'm gonna pick up another MP10 and run it in the same spot that you have yours - opposite side, closer to the sand.

I will have to say that I was very pleased with the selection of rock that Bulk Reef Supply sent. Ordered 50 pounds of the reef saver and included a note about the type of tank, size, and a request for as much rock with flat spaces for eventually attaching coral as possible. They sent a great selection IMO and although I didn't bust out the scales, I definitely think I got more than 50 pounds. There's probably still one third of what they sent in the box on a shelf in the garage.

Yea I have the DOS. Luckily I had it set to turn off at a pH of 8.3. pH peaked at 8.55 before it finally started dropping. None of the corals look bad, and I HOPE it stays like that.

Thinking I may have to sell my Gyre and get 1-2 MP10's instead.

Not just for the control, but the flow is just that, a Gyre. The outside of the Gyre (top of the water and sand bed have huge flow, but high on the rock work where SPS is has very little flow.

Lowering it slightly help, or does that create a sandstorm?

Wow. I've accidently added too much alk like that once when I wasn't thinking. I think it scares us more than the tank. Most of the time a single big shot will dissipate pretty quickly.

What are your thoughts on the dos otherwise? I've had air bubbles in the lines constantly... I am going to try to reset the hoses today. Already replaced the heads. Tech support asked me to run it for 48 hrs in a graduate to make sure it's dosing correct volumes. How can it when it's pushing air instead of fluid??

Without having a Dos myself, this is all just speculation, but it sounds to me like you might have gotten some faulty tubing - assuming there are no bubbles in your reservoir bottles. Doesn't happen often at all, but we have occasionally seen sets for our IV pumps have a tiny hole that leads to air in the lines. The pumps we use can detect those bubbles and shut themselves down.

One thing I would *really* liked to have seen in the DDR would be independent drip chambers beneath the reservoirs. Think about your standard IV tubing. That little clear hard plastic compartment that's right beneath where the bag is spiked exists precisely for this reason - to eliminate any bubbles that might have formed in the "reservoir" (the bag) so that when the line is primed, air won't get in the lines unless there is a physical defect in the tubing. Obviously we don't have to be as concerned about infusing an air embolus into our tanks, but folks that are going to be willing to invest in the DOS and DDR are probably also going to expect that for all that money, if we want to infuse exactly 7.5mL/hr then we will get a flow rate of exactly 7.5mL/hr. Adding drip chambers to the DDR wouldn't have added a significant amount of cost and - IMHO - made it look a lot cooler with even more real value outside of the optical sensor!

Yes, yes they can, among other things.. And the continuous beeping is so annoying. And anything sets them off, when the patient pulls the IV, bends their arm, pinches the tubing in the bed, lays on the tubing.

Don't really have too many thoughts on it so far.. Only ever turned it to auto once and it screwed up the dose, so my opinion on it is still up in the air.
