Owners Thread: Innovative Marine Fusion 40

I am still to the point of doing daily ALK and calcium tests to get it stable, getting close now though.

Takes a couple weeks of testing...first daily, then every other day, then once a week. I let mine go now. It's on it's own. I'll test this week just because I have a wc due...Neptune sent me all new hoses. Should be here tomorrow. Meanwhile air bubbles are minimal now....

Im not having any issue with bubbles in mine.

I'm running equal parts calcium and Alkalinity though.
Calcium is a bit low but its mostly stable, and Alkalinity is on the rise, Was 7.95 yesterday, 8.06 today. Calcium was 375 yesterday, 370 today. May need to run higher calcium for a bit just to get it up.

What can I dose to raise calcium that wont raise pH?

Had to start altering my dosing schedule while using the 1.5tsp of Kalk. pH was getting close to 3.4 in the daytime.

This is my current dosing schedule

Well was gettin worried, was never able to get my diamond goby to eat actual food.. Today when I was feeding corals some rods food he came right out and grabbed a whole mysys shrimp and chowed down on it, then proceded to swim around and pick up all sorts of leftovers.

Looking good! I remember when my tank looked light that. Nicely and white! It's cool to watch it totally turn colors

Here's a photo Holly (the wife) snapped. I just noticed this morning a tiny bit of fin deterioration on one fin on the black-and-white. Nothing significant or alarming, but will keep an eye on it. These guys seem to be settling in a bit and calming down. The orange one refuses to eat the Thera-A pellets, but was okay with PE Mysis. The black one happily eats both.

Sorry for the loss of Frank, Reduck. That's gotta be a little frustrating to just have one randomly die without an obvious reason. Hope you find a good replacement today!

Cal additives don't usually raise ph much. Where do you want it to land?
400 is about right, so use the reef calc and pick your supplement. Dose it up in 2-3 shots...then adjust to keep it there..

I prefer to keep it around 425, have always had better luck with it slightly over 400.

And I may manually dose some, but will wait till lights to out. PH is already at 8.42

Calculator says I need to dose 125 ml of the calcium to get it to 425

You should be ok dosing it up with part A over a couple days. That's a significant dose but it should be negligible ph shift...if you are using kalk to do it...all bets are off. Ph will jump..

I may use the Kent calcium I have, slightly more concentrated and less of a pH shift according to what I've read. Had the Kent stuff for my old biocube, manually dosing it if/when needed

I need to start going to therapy. Went to the lfs and came home with a nice group of rainbow acans, some sweet zoas, and in due to the lose of frank came home with his brother.

So I think I have decided on the next tank..reefer 450. My wife and I would like another kid so my office is going into the basement. Was thinking of a wall in tank and fish room but probably don't have enough time for that. So I think the 450 is it. I did just get another masters, so I feel it is only fitting that my wife gets me a graduation present :)

Yea, that's a good idea. I keep baking soda for alk and brs bulk for cal around for manually upping the levels. I can't believe how well baking soda works for alk. This way the tlf c balance gets used proportionally. Or close to it..
Since the dos went in, the manual stuff hasn't been needed. It's been pretty stable. Slowly balancing the two out each week.

Starting to see coralline spots on the rocks. Woohoo. Took long enough..

Awesome. Hope you have better luck with his brother!
You do need a 12 step...you are a lot worse than me and I'm real bad...
Moving into the basement allows a sump system? You should look at the cadlights systems! Artisan are really nice. The Red Sea is too though..
Either will make a fine graduation present! It's not the cost of the tank...it's what you put into it...luckily you have top notch stuff in the 40 that can be moved over...since you'll need a second radion....you should buy mine before I send it back for upgrading!! I ordered the G3 pro upgrade and was just going to put it away for my next tank....but if you get your 450 you'll need it first!

Well, with Kent calcium, its only 75ml.

Says you can bring calcium up by 50ppm per day but i cut the dose in half and will do the other half tomorrow. But even dosing ~1/3 cup the pH didn't move at all, so that's nice.

And the only coralline I have in my tank is on my trochus snails.

Yep. Just remember that the tank is gonna eat some of it so it may not be perfect when you test tomorow or Tuesday.

Yea..some of my snails have coralline too....it's pretty funny actually..

Yea, But I'm hoping my dosing is close so it wont drop too much. Just trying to get it to the right level to maintain.

Are you sticking with the same salt or changing brand? If you want to keep the alk and cal up, you might switch to rscp. It's good to go for higher alk and cal right out of the tub...you'll use less 2 part as a result. Just sayin..:hmm5:

Nah, considering how fast it drops, it really wont do much.

The HW-MarineMix mixes up with ~9.5 dKH, ~460 ppm Calcium, ~1400 Magnesium @ 1.025 SG.

The thing I like about the MarineMix is the fact that its all synthetic, so when you mix it, there is no brown residue leftover in the bucket or anything, its just perfectly clean.

Ok...it has similar numbers to the Red Sea pro..you should be good to go then..
I typically don't get residue in the bucket. I start with cold water though, then mix overnight and heat an hour prior to wc...I recall the other salt I used left nasty brown gunk in the can. I washed it out with vinegar and water just cause it was gross....I don't think it ever did anything bad mind you, it just looked gross.

Yea, I used to be using reef crystals and it did that ALL the time. Heard rave reviews about the MarineMix Reefer salt so decided to try it. The new batch is fine, last batch was just weird.

Really your dose is very close to mine. I'm still a little lopsided on the alk but I am betting by the next wc, they'll be equal. I'd be happy at about 15-20ml a day for both...
All this from a bad salt mix...I just ordered a new tub...hopefully it's good! I stopped buying the small tubs to counteract the chance of a bad mix...
