Owners Thread: Innovative Marine Fusion 40

I figured it won't hurt...if our plans change I'll let you know....

Saturday for me. My daughter has swim lessons on Sunday and do not like missing those. I like to get in early and see what the vendors have. Good call on the 100 gallon tank idea.

My all in one tank is getting more complicated by the day lol. Has external UV sterilizer, now it has a external media reactor (BRS Deluxe) and soon it's gonna have a calcium reactor.

Before coming a teacher and setting down, I use to do medical sales seminars all around the country for doctors, so if you want to come up on Saturday, I will be more than happy to close a deal for you :) Guarantee sale is better than a what if sale on Sunday..

Maybe you should slide a 100g in its place? :celeb1:

Only kidding. You'll have the most tricked out AIO out there...

? for you all

? for you all

I am new to the hobby. 8 months ago a purchased a Innovative Marine 20 gallon tank. I love it but want to go bigger.

I guess what I don't understand is what is the difference than getting a all in one tank like the IM 40 or a tank and having the sump built below.

Is one better than the other? It just seems to me that the all in one is just a little simpler and there is a lot less maintenance or things that could go wrong.

I am possibly wanting the IM 40 or getting a 60 gallon cube with a sump. I will tell you that after some research the IM 40 is less money. I already have one MP10 and a kessill A360 light.

Also, has the IM 60 been discontinued?

All comments are welcome. I am just trying to educate myself.

Welcome!
Sump systems are not complicated. They are more spacious and flexible than AIO tanks. It is very easy to add components as needed.
AIO tanks are limited in component addition. Though not as much as they used to be! If you browse through this and other AIO threads you'll see us treating these tanks no different than people with sump systems. Maintenence on the AIO is a little more difficult since you need good access to the rear sump for cleaning etc. still, not a big deal once you get used to it.

I believe the IM80 was discontinued but I'm not sure about the 60.
I'd say to do your homework and shop wisely, and get the biggest tank you can afford now...because there is no doubt you'll want to go bigger eventually.
That said these 40s are great systems. If you have limited space, they are near perfect.

Don't discount other brands either. Red Sea, JBJ, cad lights, etc all make AIO systems that are visually appealing and very functional.

Good luck in your research. Hope to see you back here with the 40!

Thanks for your quick response.......

I am limited with space. I just looked up the JBJ that your recemmended and I really like the 45 compared to the Innovative Marine. Do you have a personal preference on which you like better?

also if you dont mind I have some fish questions

Thanks again

The jbj is nice. I have had 2 jbj tanks and they were both excellent. The design of the jbj rimless is nice. I just had a bad experience getting one without breaking so I ended up with the IM.
If you have just slightly more room, I'd look hard at the cadlights saio 75. It has an innovative sump design, but the cost is a bit higher. im currently looking at the 100g saio.

You should ask stocking questions in the thread "check out your intended fish purchases."
They have the most experience with cohabitation.

We can try, but the mods there are very well versed in all species.

Good luck in your quest!

I saw the vendor list and RS isn't listed. You should look at it. It is a perfect size for where I want to put it. Need to email them and ask for a teacher discount.

No but one of the vendors might be a dealer...it's 2 weeks away..you can do it!

I don't have the boss's approval yet. You're a step ahead of me. Wondering if our mp10 will work on these larger tanks or need to go to 40s. reefer 350 is 47 inches long

Good question. Might ask it in the Ecotech forum..I think I'd try using them both on the same side for a while before I go upgrade. Right now my tank is running on one mp. The other is going back for overhaul.....

Reduck I have a problem! I saw a tank in person with a few of my same corals, but under T5. The corals color looked so much better, overall color and fish color also looked better. And now I'm seriously considering switching

Dude, you need to slow down. Seriously..you are changing things too fast. Every week it's something new...you'll never settle in and enjoy this hobby.
But that said, there are a couple build threads for im40 and at least one is under t5. It's pretty nice.

I'd still give your current set up some time!

+1. Nicely said Reduck!

The system is going to always be changing. I try and keep a system as basic as possible.

I took out my reactor a while ago and now just as basic as possible. Give you credit card a break :)
