Get a second opinion on your tests.
The only thing in common is the kit you are using.
I have a lfs that's happy to do a test or two if I'm not believing the results.
I would let it be. It will go away as the tank matures.
Avoid introducing more stock.
Control your feeding.
Keep up with water changes.
Blow the rocks off with a turkey baster and scrape the glass before you WC.
It will pass.
Avoid the quick fix. I didn't and lost some very pricey corals. Expensive lesson learned....
The two corals you mentioned can easily do another lights out, but I wouldn't fret it....

Today I tested EVERYTHING for phosphates ... twice ... AND went to get distilled water as a base test.

I tested the tank water, RO/DI waste, RO water, stored RO water ready for water change (in 2 separate containers) ... and the distilled water.

Laid all 5 tubes down side-by-side. The distilled water was barely different to the others ... which is the cold light of day all appear yellow, with barely the slighted difference between the distilled and the others with one (I believe the waste water) being a little greener. Will try again tomorrow just to be sure.

I was very sure to rinse all the tubes AND caps in the water I was testing. Very careful about getting the drops in the middle of the test tubes and not running down the sides.

In conclusion, I think my phosphates must be trace, or OK ... and this must just be a diatom / algae bloom. I see a couple signs of red slime (bubbles on glass after not cleaning for 5 days), and tiny bubbles on the rocks, but I'm thinking this must just be part of the normal cycle.

I only have green star polyps (on the back wall in two places) and two tiny zoa colonies. All thriving and growing. No other corals. Considering doing another 48 hours dark. Thoughts?

Thanks Reduck ... I always blow the rocks off when doing water changes, and will keep up the good work. So far everything is thriving .. and I'll just have to let the algae stage pass. I don't remember it being this difficult the last two reef tanks I had ! LOL

I went ahead and ordered the Sicce Syncra Silent 2.0. Due to the fact that you need to take apart the Eheim +2000 to pull it out each time.. I have decided to go this way, so cleaning will be easier.

Definitely let me know how that goes, too. The factory pump doesn't really bother me as far as sound goes (especially when the Aquamaxx is running), but I would like to get more flow and have a better pump running primarily with the stock one sitting on the shelf as a backup. Would prefer to not have to disassemble the Eheim if we can come up with an option of equal quality.

There is only one. ... Tunze 3155

I'll have to say that so far I have been extremely pleased with my Avast ATO, too. I haven't used the Tunze so can't offer any head-to-head comparison. I like that I can look in the Apex logs to see what times of day the pump is running. Overall very pleased with the Avast. But I have never read anything negative about the Tunze either.

Definitely agree. If you're getting consistently unexpected results using store-bought distilled water I would definitely lean toward a problem with the test kit itself. Uncommon, but not unheard of... like trying to reconcile a bank account when the bank statement is wrong. :)

Let me know how quiet it is, the factory one is driving me crazy.

I did not think the factory pump was loud at all, except on start up.

But I also barely hear my 4k gph pond pump either. (The waterfall muffles it)
Ok I'm old and probably destroyed my ears mixing music for 20+ years in stadiums and studios...:twitch:

I took a couple of photos of my tank last weekend. I also added a nice frogspawn after my wife went with me to the LFS and she said that "green one" would make a nice center piece. That was all I needed to hear. I told the guy "sold!"

You will have to excuse my photography skills. That is something I am working on next.

That's the way it happens..most of the time. I take my wife and let her pick out her own corals. I buy them but they're hers..she feeds all of hers when I feed the tank. She loves to watch them eat.
Nice frogspawn, she picked a doozy, nice scoly too! Can't find the blennie though..

She does have good taste. We both enjoy sitting in my office as the sun sets on the reef. It's our favorite time of the day, especially when a nice glass of wine is involved.

Blenny is on the left, above the hammer.

Ah. I see his head up there now!
It's nice to find a hobby that couples can enjoy together. It also helps feed the addiction...

Hello, I'm new to this (less than 3 years) recently upgraded from Nano size biocube 14g to IM fusion 40
So here's my setup.

Custom stand, with invisible European hinges. solid wood, stained and coated with water resistant material.

2 custom caddy media baskets with Eshopps AEO 19070 on top for mechanical
Activated carbon in media bags in the middle and Purigen at the bottom level

25lb Pukani rock that took a month to cycle after acid bath

Aquamaxx HOB -1 skimmer

IM Media reactor with high capacity GFO

Vortech MP10 QD

Kessil a360w with gooseneck and spectrum controller

Tunze Osmolatot 3155 ATO

Solid set up. You are going to love the tank. I am in the process of changing out the return pump once again, so I will report my findings.

I am in the process of tweaking my filtration in the tank.. trying to go to more natural filtration, but I have used that same set up and works well.

Welcome

thats a perfect path upwards. Welcome to our addiction.
Please post pics when you can!

Gentlemen and Mrs. Fish....Go order the Sicce Syncra Silent 2.0. It works perfectly for the tank...I might even turn down the flow a little.

Installation is easy. You slide down the pump and then put on the male adapter. I went to home depot and got a 3/4 in x 1/2 in reducer that you see in the picture. The output tubes are 1/2 in. Got that down in there...going to be easy to pull out and clean.

It is quiet and is a much improvement improvement from the OEM pump and the Eheim +2000.

Enjoy..

So I need a skimmer, I know the hob1 is a good skimmer but it's ugly. How is the ghost?

I am using the ghost, it is not a bad skimmer..PITA to dial it in and keep it dialed in.. (IMO). I do like the Aquamaxx, amazing but as you say it is ugly. I believe a couple people are using the Tunze 9004.

I would just go with the ghost. Pretty good unit all around and looks good.

ghost is ok. there may be better, but its engineered to fit perfectly and it does.
as biz said, its a pita to start up with the microbubbles, but once it breaks in, its completely functional and does the job with little noise.

The biggest design flaw I see with it is the overflow tube. You really can't use it to dump out to a larger container. So the only alternative is to allow it to spill back into the sump. That is far from a deal breaker though..I think you'll find most of us that use it dump the cup daily or every couple of days. When on vacation, I let it dump back into the sump....

I'd say if you want something that looks and fits well go for it. If you want better performance, go for the HOB1. There are also others like the cadlight 50 and tunze that people are using successfully.
