Owners Thread: Innovative Marine Fusion 40

Anyone dosing kalkwasser in their topoff?

I considered it but I opted for two part instead. Just too much risk with the ATO overdosing or pump clogging. I have to feed the fish every day anyway so I'll just add it when I feed them.

Does anyone think an AquaIllumination Prime would be adequate for a wide variety or coral, Or would that be insufficient? Thank you ahead of time!

IME No way it will cover fully and you will end up buying another one so count on spending about $500 if you go that route. I tried one a friend let me borrow over the tank and my radion xr15 blew it away spread wise and power wise. The radion is already underpowered for full tank coverage and corals on the outer edges of tank are stretching for light while the ones directly under it are overloaded with it.

It's really hard and or basically impossible to get full coverage with a single puck on our tanks once they mature. To get the par levels on the sides high enough mine needs to be cranked way up, and that comes at the cost of anything directly under it in the top half the tank having way too much light.

It may work at first but once coral starts growing it shadows out everything below it. Since it just a single lower power puck you will already have shadowing pretty severely on the edges, add coral growing in that light pattern and you have no choice but to get another one or switch to another type of light..

T5 would be your cheaper bet for full coverage initially especially since you can find 24" ATI fixtures used pretty easily and affordable or more than a single puck fixture.

All Jmo but I'm that guy who spent a bunch of money on the xr15, mount and reef link just to realise I need a xr30 after the tank grew in..I've since changed gears on it and no more sps, only zoas, mushrooms and nems.. Sps under a single puck = bottoms without any light and only good view is from the top down..

And the other question about shimmer and turning it off, that's a no go on led lit tanks =) .. Metal halide and led sources are known for the shimmer, so if you hate the shimmer your only real option is a t5 fixture..

Hi everyone! Completely new here, as you can see from my only post. I'm planning on buying a nuvo 40 as my first saltwater and first coral reef aquarium ever! I'm currently building a shopping list, and I was wondering if anyone could give me advice.

My main concerns are making the tank as quiet as possible, lots of biodiversity, and

Tank: Nuvo 40 of course ^_^
Stand: A really awesome endtable with legs thicker than my limbs.
Pump: Just the stock one for now, to save money? As long as they're quiet?
Heater: Eheim Jager 100w
Skimmer: Tunze 9004, I've heard is very quiet? Are there others I should be considering?
Lighting: Where I'm most stuck. Again, my biggest concerns are biodiversity, quiet, and cost. I'm thinking of going LED's, but I don't know what's sufficient and what is not for this tank.
Extra flow: I have no idea really what to do here, could use as much advice as possible.
Testing: I'm getting a refractometer, and the saltwater master test kit by Aquarium Pharmaceuticals. Are there other test kits I definitely need, and if so, what else do I need?
Additional things: Is there anything I'm missing?

Any help is really appreciated ^_^
Thanks everybody!

The Tunze 9004 is a great skimmer but it does make some noise. On the light, you could run a Kessil (this is what I run) which is great for softies but not so great for most SPS.

Just sent in my Gen 1 radion to get the Gen 3 upgrade for the 40g..

No way Ime long term a single puck will work if you have corals that grow lol, I've been having issues with my nem shading low light mushrooms and zoas forcing me to either move them or upgrade.. I'm not into chipping off my jawbreaker Colony just to run a single puck xr15 pro and have nothing on the bottom of my rock structure. ..

Hey guys, sorry if this has been addressed, there are 100+ pages here to read through... I have a Kessil 160 on my Nuno 10, now upgrading to a IM 40, do I need to go up to a 360WE or can I just crank up the 160WE?

So my OEM Pump was slowing down and not pumping as well as did originally. So I bought the Sicce pump everyone suggest to use. Boy is to fun to put in that center section. Had to remove the screen on the pump and the install the adapter on while the pump was under water.

Luckily I had also picked up some 1/2 ID tubing while at Home Depot. As I redid the lines as the pump is a different size. Just thought I would share this so you know if you do use the pump it is not just a drop in replacement and it is a real tight fit.

Hi Everyone, been working my way through this thread for a couple weeks!
Been thinking about doing a saltwater tank for years, and fell in love with the look of the IM Fusion 40, so I am taking the plunge. Since somebody apparently cut down the money tree I planted in my back yard, I have been buying my components slowly, but I am just about ready to get rolling. Here is what I am working with:

-IM Fusion 40 tank and stand
-AI Prime light
-MP10 powerhead
-IM Ghost Protien Skimmer
-Apex Gold controller
-40 lbs sand
-10lbs base rock, 20 lbs live rock

Has anyone custom made (or been able to find) a canopy for this? I am surprised there isn't somebody making one for purchase, which makes me think that I am possibly missing something....

The tank is a rimless model and you don't see people putting canopies on rimless tanks much.

Agreed, and while I am not exactly excited about the prospect, since this tank will reside in the living room, I was concerned about the light bugging ppl sitting on the couches....
