Oxymonacanthus longirostris - a week in review.

It's the fin on the bottom.

How big is he! His eye looks huge.

Would it be best to leave the filefish in the nano it's in or should I try and put it in my reef to see if it'll pick at some corals? I just want the little guy/gal to make it. It's picked at some arcti-pods but it's mouth seemed too small to eat it.

i believe Daniel mentioned that his fish is eating roe.

our pair eats frozen mysis, BS+, roe, and shaved fish flesh (they LOVE salmon). we have about 19 lions and scorps, so Renee tried the shaved salmon just to see if they'd take it, and they did.

i should mention that Renee spent FOREVER-AND-A-DAY getting the female to convert (we actually lost the male we acquired at the same time to starvation). the male we have now was kind of already taking mysis, and i think the female being such a good eater helped him along.

we started the fish with browned-out acropora just to hold them over while Renee worked with them. i've seen her work hard on getting fish to eat, but never anything close to what the OSFF took.

So I guess I should keep Hume isolated still then, my gf is picking up some slimer frags of mine from a friend that I'm gonna put in there to see if I can keep the little guy/gal alive.

It seems to really be taking to the arcti-pods so I'm happy it's eating. I put some slimer frags in there so hopefully it'll nip at those as well when I'm not home.

cool...nice work.

you might try frozen cyclopeeze too. actually, there's a Rod's food that has roe and cyclopeeze in it. the roe isn't huge, but in may be too big for your fish, altho IME, these fish will nip at a food item until it's gone if they like it.

Ok, let's try this again, here is another pic I just took this morning.

Is this what you need to see?

I know right :) So what is the difference between male and female? What gives it away with the bottom fin?

Well he didn't really eat the arcti-pods too much tonight, but he went to town on the NLS and flake food I put in! Well, he tried anyway, he tried to eat a lot, but most was too big. So I took a plate and spoon and crushed the pellets and the flake food to a not too fine powder and let it soak in some tank water fo a little bit and he ate a good amount of it. I'm pretty excited, but I think it's too early to say if he'll pull through. I'm hoping for the best. I think I might change the water tonight since I'm dumping large amounts of foods in there. I'm sorry seahorsedreams for hijacking your thread, I just saw it and figured I post to someone who already had something going so I could get a better response. My appologies again :)

Any updates/pics with your file seahorsedreams? Mine doesn't touch the arcti-pods anymore or the NLS too much, it's actually been eating my Prime Reef Flakes by Ocean Nutrition. I'm going to the lfs tomorrow to pick up some brine and mysis and give it a try. It doesn't take the roe anymore as well like it was at the lfs also.

There hasn't been too much from me as far as pics lately. My computer took a dive and took my harddrive with it. I upload nightly to a remote server but I have to go through all the files and download them. It's an organizational mess, but all my pics are safe. So, until they are all back on my harddrive I won't me making any nightly backups. Until I start doing backups again, I won't be putting any new pics on here because I could loose them.

Wow... that was a long story.

She's doing very well.....and has a man O.O

I'm going to try some flake again tonight.
