Some pictures of the skimmer section with the bubble trap removed, My bubble king now fits. I will attempt to re-install the bubble trap this weekend hopefully only smaller. I will also be able to install filter socks if the need ever arises

Looks great rob. Glad to see the guitar strings worked. Its alot of work to get all those pieces off, modified and back in place but I think you will be happy that you did. Are you going to use the stand alone frag system and the inline frag tank?

Where did you find the barrels? Do you know if they carry something in the 30 gallon range? (for my own needs)

The guitar string worked on the glass panel that created the bubble trap. If you recall there were 2 other pieces that were laminated tight to the side panels. This was done to provide a surface to mount a filter socket bracket. I believe that I am going to modify these pieces to re-create this. To remove these two panels, the guitar string did not work so well. I ended using an exacto blade along with taping knives. I would flex them against the glass and work them inbetween panels. This was a very slow and painful process but end result looks good.

I have inquired about smaller clear barrels for you. I will send you a txt when I get some more info.
Cheers

Getting excited here.. Hope to see everything come together soon :) wtac is right! it does have the Battlestar Galactica look! cool! lol.

Rob, this is absolutely amazing.
We're so jealous of having that huge space to be able to build out the system. Definitely subscribed and wish like hell we were closer to Ontario and could come see this in person as it progresses. Keep up the great work!

Thanks guys,
I tend to work slow as i like to try and wrap my mind around all aspects which can be overwhelming at times. All of you are welcome to come see the progress if you wish, just send me a pm ahead of time so i can ensure I am there :)

I will be working on finishing the framing hopefully over the next couple weeks and then ill start tackling the electrical. I've ordered an solar and Palau TD mixvent axial fan which utilizes ABS fan blades. I am installing this to help remove humidity if ever required(not sure if it will be required). I will have it plumbed to 2 or 3 seperate ports to extract the air over where I believe the humity will be created, for example over the sink and over the skimmer. I will be punching a nice hole in the wall once it comes in and then plumb it up.

Btw, I never intended to have a starship light, But that will be a discussion for another time :)

all jokes aside, on more serious note

yes, I am jealous too...but not of the space he has for his fish room etcetc...I am jealous of the excellent talent Rob has for putting a system
together....wow....he is one talented guy and does quite a bit of work on
my 300 gal reef system for me...and ...I knowwwww it is being done right and very well.

thanks Rob big time for all your help in helping with my physical set up of
my upgrade and for helping me plan my new direction in reefing....wow...
for the short period of time you have been in the hobby you are doing
exceptionally well...you are always on the cutting edge too which helps
us old timers get out of the hum drum mode.:D

thanks again,

Tim

Im thinking the barely and hops in the beer could be a form of carbon Dosing, similar to rice! I'm going to need a beer fridge too come to think of it.

Beer salts anyone? or ... is that beer suds?

zerooooooo phosphates baby! lol

Tim

hahah you guys better get your check books out. These things take forever to restore properly with translates into more $$$ than its worth. To me, its something different and allows me to have that nice pasteurized taste.. mmmmm.

Back to fishroom, I had a couple hours this morning and continued working on the ceiling framing. I found some of the boards had warped so clearly I went back and fixed them till everything was dead level. ........ 2 hrs later.

Depending how the rest of my weekend goes, I hope to give another update soon,

I cut those pieces of glass down so I could shorten the bubble trap and still allow for 2 4" filter socks to be installed if i ever decide down the road. Here is 3 of 4 seams complete. I will need to trim the corner once everything cures. Here is the progress

Nice looking build so far. I'm tagging along as I can't wait to see it all built out.

Jon,
Always good to hear from you, Your tank is looking fantastic these days. One of these days when this project finally comes together, I hope my tank looks as good as yours does.

I know I have been very slow with posting, I haven't had as much time as I anticipated these last two weeks. That coupled with all the components that I'm waiting for does kinda make it seem like I'm keeping everyone in suspense and I apologize. I will try to keep the thread moving as best I can.

Some of these items I am waiting for that are stalling my build progress are the following:
1. Blue ECO 240 DC brush-less pumps (1 for closed loop and 1 for return)
2. Vertex Celebra- Controller is still not released yet. :headwally:

Hopefully there will be some good news soon regarding both these items. Perhaps there will be some updates or demos even at MACNA.

Rob
