Padrino's 220 Upgrade

Well now things have settled down slightly. I have finally had a chance to fill the tank as of last week with tap water to test the tank integrity as well as the floor beneath it. I started by taking measurements downstairs from different points down to the floor to measure any deflection once I started adding weight (water to the tank). Once the tank was full I only measured 2 mm of deflection at one point however its very possible is could measurement or operator error. This was great news! I was really afraid that it would or might crack a tile on my porcelain floor.

Since then I have run power under the stand using liquid tight to finally allow me to run the closed loop abyzz pumps and starting their break in cycles. I have added 2x2 lumber that I have secured to stand to allow for easier fastening in the near future. I will start sheeting the stand so that I can stone the outside face. Prior to this I need to make or purchase simple wooden corbels that can be fastened in place to hold and secure a custom bamboo ledge that I will make by laminating 2 sheets of bamboo plywood together. Once installed, I will finish it with a danish oil.

As most of you can tell, I have trouble making decisions and move very slowly. The way I see it is nothing good ever happens fast........ just like reefing!
pictures will follow.
Cheers

Just an idea. Have you thought about having one side of the return closed loop nozzles point in one direction and then have the other side point the opposite direction?

I have not, that's an interesting concept. My plan was to create a barrel roll (advise from paul @ Oceansmotions) This concept can be seen in one of the earlier pages of this thread. The omni nozzles that are installed now were only put in like that to test the abyzz pumps as i didn't want to have water all over my ceiling. I will install them properly once I drain the tank and finish the stand.

I only asked because that would create a gyre effect in the tank and it would be good for the corals.

Time seems to be very hard to come by these days with the baby, work and other projects. But here is what was accomplished this weekend.

All plumbing professionally secured in place.

And the other side has been sheeted now so as soon as my corbels are made, I will install them and start laminating my 5" bamboo ledge (1.5" thick). Once that is installed I will finally be able to start installing the stone on the outside face. I also replaced the trim on the entrance way in behind the tank with a larger and thicker profile. I also added a backband so that when I install the stone, it does not stick out past the door casing. :)

It all looks so clean and well-engineered!
The only thing I don't like are metal parts (outlet box covers, hose clamps, etc). Stainless or not, they WILL rust. Consider plastic instead.

Everything is stainless steel or aluminum. Certain items are not available in plastic. Trust me im with you on this on.

Awesome build! cant wait to see this thing cycled! I'm not sure if this was mentioned earlier. Who built this magnificent tank?

Miracles did this for me. Its nice but im too anal and there are a few things that are not perfect but it works and is a nice tank.

wow, this is an amazing build, I commend you on your attention to detail. There are some great ideas to take away from this. Thanks for sharing.
