Par 38 LED spotlights

Looks like some of my discussions on this thread stepped over into "commercial" territory, so I've been getting in trouble and all my posts have been pulled from the thread. So, doesn't look like I'll be talking about these much. I'm not taking a stab at the RC Mod staff, just playing by the rules from this point.

That sucks I have spent 40 min reading this whole thing to find out all the good info was removed. Damit trying to learn about led lighting.

With it that focused it won't cook your coral?

What PAR value you need for your coral? Can someone point to a link where I can see what PAR values different corals need?

Base on the chart I made, for a 18x1W bulb with 60 degree lens and if I were to set the bulbs at 12" apart and set it at 24" above the bottom of the tank, the sand bed is at ~160. I don't think this is very high to cook the corals.

I tested some 40 and 30 degree, I feel then they are too focused and when they 120 degree, they are too disbursed(the numbers are so low I almost thought my par meter was damaged, LOL:D)

How r the par 38 diffent then any other led setup? I'm thinking of either doing a diy or the par38

Using PAR 38, you don't need to know too much about LED wiring and dirvers and ....

Using Std. DIY LED procedures described in numerous build threads, you have more control and ability to design the LED specific to your need. However, I must warn you most of those builds did not pay attention to the splash guard which will haunt you later.

I DIY many prototypes of LED for aquarium purposes started 5 years ago. Those with splash guards look like new after 5 years of operation but those without look like trash. Most surface of the LED stars are coated with rust.

Thought i would join in and share my par38 setup on my 65g
5 nanotuners par38s 4-20k 1-12k
dual track lighting fixtures hung from ceiling with adjustable hangers.

it is a little bit brighter than the pics show but these things are hard to shoot pictures with.

How long does everyone run their Par 38s? I just got (4) Par 38 bulbs (7 led kind) to go over my 46 Bow Front. I was thinking I will run 2 Par30 Bulbs all RB a hour before and after the Par38 Bulbs which will run for 12 hours. What does everyone run?
Happy Reefing

i have a par 38 bulb that i got off ebay, realy bright, 50/50 that i am not using since i moved everything to my 72 gal bowfront, I would be willing to maby meet or let you come here if you have a par meter to test the light. it is only a 12 watt led par bulb, 30 degree optics, i ran it on my 14 gallon nano, which is not idle with just fish and one anem.

that tank is idle, and it would give you an idea on how the led work with one watt an led, i just dont have a par meter, and we could test it on the 72 if needed, its 21 deep

Does anyone one use other LEDs for Actinics/ moonlighting? I was thinking of some kind of stunner strips that I have seen people run.

I have used stunners and as far as i can see they are alright for supplement but have almost no par by the sandbed after 20" of water and being about 3 " off the surface. I would suggest looking into the new aquaticlife led strips. They have better built in reflectors and may be better than the ecoxotic. I just havent seen them in use yet so i cant say anything for sure.

need some help with lighting options.

what bulbs do you guys suggest for a 30"x8"x9" (12 gallon long)

i was thinking two 7 LED PAR38 Bulbs from rapid. any other suggestions?

I would use 2x80* optics. With such a shallow tank you would fry everything with 60* optics. Plus, the color blending is better with wider optics.

hey guys just ordered a new tank,,,mr aqua 25 gallon cube 18x18x18 and came across the new ecoxotic par 38 tri color, i want to do mostly sps with this tank with aquascape being very column like,,do you think one of these will support the sps or will i need two? the sps will be about 6 inches from the water line,,,this is my first time with leds so be nice(:
