After looking at the NYA pic closer and longer I think there is a possibility there is more than one variant.

Hmm, now I'm a bit concerned, as I just saw today's photo. Not certain that's P. attenuatus...

Fingers crossed for what shows up in my box tomorrow.

Any of you all that got one of these, post pics! I'm about to order one as well. Does this fish sleep in the sand or in the rocks? I may need to put some sand in QT if this fish sleeps in the sand. Any info about these fish to be as successful as possible would be great. Thanks!

Flashers don't need sand. Rocks will be fine.

Yeah no sand required they make a mucus cocoon to sleep in. QT is really helpful with these guys cause they come in really stressed out. After the adjustment to captivity is over they are really hardy healthy fish, they eat everything and adapt nicely. Shipping stress is the number one issue followed by jumping and becoming carpet jerky.

A mucus cocoon is a new one to me. I believe you are confused with parrot fish. When I took one the LFS didn't put it in its tanks, I took it directly after they got it in. Mine adapted quickly to aquarium life. It accepted mysis right away and two days later it was eating pellets. Mine is a pig now and eats everything.

I guess I'm missing something then. I have over 10 fairies and flashers now not including the other 20 or so over the years and I have never seen any coccon or resemblance of one.

They sleep in the rock work and make a clear-ish, slimy cocoon. Consistency is kind of like runny boogers .

If you want to see for yourself, lift up some rocks where they sleep after a few hours after lights out.

It's a mucous membrane they cover themselves with at night in the rocks to keep them safe from predators. Thus the name mucous cacoon. I'm sure you have seen the leftovers of one in your tank before but just didn't realize it.
