Very nice wave with the vortechs
I think you should lower the speed a little

I dont run them like that all the time. I usually run them at about 50 percent on reefcrest mode.

nice stuff man, love the maximas as well, especially the light blue one..

a couple months back, I did the same exact thing you did with your fish.. I had a 4x2x1 quarantine tank and threw a bunch of my fish in there because a yellow belly hippo gave most my other fish an outbreak of ich.

Needless to say, it would have been much better left in the tank and feeding them with selcon enriched foods twice a day

I lost my prized chevron tang, the hippo, flame hawk and wrasse I've had for 2 years, blotched anthias :( The only survivors were the leopard wrasse and sunburst anthias whom I could not catch for the life of me.

What killed them in the QT was not ich, but an ammonia spike.. Everyone was doing great for 2-3 weeks, and I decided to add a 3rd powerhead to the tank, overnight it caused a horrible ammonia spike and killed all fish. :(

Good luck with your newer fish.. I just dip em and throw them in my tank now, theyre all doing great.

btw.. AWESOME flamethrower.. let me know if you ever frag it :D

oh and also.. have you had more success with your chalice frags in lower flow, bottom of the tank? I've got some that I've been moving around.. and they seem to like minimal flow, and when put in higher flow areas, they stopped showing feeders at night..

All but one of my chalices are in the sand. I just put the ones that like higher light directly under the MH, but still in the sand. A couple of months ago I started feeding them around an hour after the lights go out. I either turn the pumps off or turn them down and then direct feed them mysis. With new ones it takes a while but eventually they all start to put out feeder tenticles at night to be fed.

Here is a picture of my BGM eating.

BGM? Big Green Monster?

 Bubble Gum Monster

nice shot, I usually feed like 1 mysis per mouth, because the night time critters (shrimp/crab/snails) come and snatch em up if I feed too much

Yeah they like to steal food from the chalices. I used to put them up on a frag rack to feed them, but sometimes I'm lazy and just feed them in the sand. Either way they still get fed at least twice a week.

The only complaint I have about the pictures are that the sps seem to blend in with the background of live rock. How do people get the corals to stand out from the background in their pics?

If you are shooting in Aperture Priority and have a smaller f/stop (2.8), usually the item in focus will stand out and the background will be a little or a lot softer.

Then again, sometimes your coral will be blurry and the rock perfectly sharp. That happens more often than you'd think.

I'm just using my wifes point and shoot with the micro lense. I'll have to play with it to see if I can adjust the f/stop.

Well now I'm battling AEFW's, just found them yesterday. I was wondering why some of my sps were receding and losing color. Part of me is happy I know what is doing the damage, part of me is sick to think of how hard it is to get rid of these things. I have started to dip all of the effected corals and blowing off all the others. I also ordered a nudi and a wrasse that will hopefully get rid of the rest of them or at least keep them in check.

Just be careful, some of the flatworms are in the rocks and may just grab a hold of your corals again.

It is good that you know the cause though. If you do end up adding flatworm exit or something of that sort, be VERY careful, and do many water changes right away. I have heard too many stories about flatworm exit destroying tanks.

Goodluck!
