Peeping Banggai Fry

Hi! After several clutches my male Banggai has finally held his clutch of eggs to full term. I saw some fry peeping out of his mouth last night. My question is, how do you know if they are already ready to be released? I need to find out if they are already ready so I can catch the male before he starts spitting them out in my DT. I have other fishes there that might make a meal out of the fry so i prepared a hatching cage in my sump where I will keep the fry.

In addition, any advise as to how i can catch the male without stressing him out too much?

Hope you guys can give me some advise! Thanks!

catch him in a net, if he spits them ( you still have them in the net) try to transer male to your other tank ,, I hope you have lots of brine in there

Already started hatching BBS (Artemia) and bought some Aminomega (HUFA) to enrich them.

Any tips on how to catch him?

I'm against the net idea, but it works. The PopBottle fish trap works nicely. That way he never has to be suspended out of water.

I just caught him last night and I have 11 baby banggai fry! I kinda used both to catch him! A net on one hand and a plastic container on the other. So when he released the fry they were inside the net and the net was inside the container! Caught all the fry in one go! Thanks everyone! Now its just a matter of raising them! :)

Here is a pic of them in the hatching cage.

Thanks bro! Appreciate all the advise you gave me! :) Soon will have to move them to my fry raising tank. Have to set it up first though. hehehe

New question....When can I start trying to feed them my DIY food? I want to train them to eat prepared foods asap cause even if BBS are enriched with HUFA, i think my DIY food has more nutrition than BBS.

Another problem...one of my banggai fry doesnt look good. He's always lying down on the bottom of the cage. I thought he was dead during the weekend but when i try to get him he moves. Any ideas whats wrong with him?

Thanks lolgranny! Will try to get pics! Its just hard to take pics of such small fish especially since they are housed in my sump! hehe!

I don't scare them! hehe! I don't even put my hand inside the hatching cage. heheh! Plus i feed them HUFA enriched bbs. So i dunno what happened to him. Well the fry i think already died. I can't find the carcass though. eheheh But all the remaining ones look great. They are still very active and eat a lot everytime i feed them. They also seem to recognize the hose attached to they syringe i use to feed them. They approach it everytime i put it in the hatching cage. hehe!

Been trying to breed them for a couple of months now but this is actually the first time my male banggai held to full term. So this is my first time to breed banggai or any other fish for that matter (freshwater fish or marine fish).

Just an update...

As of today lost 1 fry only. However I don't know where the carcass went. It just disappeared. This one was the one which had a swim bladder problem and was always lying down on the bottom.

I also am weaning them off the bbs and so far they like my shaved DIY food. Fed them this morning and they seem to take it in. So far so good.

Here are some pics i took last night.
