Peeping Banggai Fry

I went back and checked, that hatch was the first one with the new cysts so it was actually two hatches since I was running two at a time to keep up then. Scoops are 1/3 of a teaspoon. Now my current schedule is a single hatch two days in a row then skip a day. I have plenty now. Even enough to add a little to the DT for the parents each day after feeding as a treat.

Wow that is pretty amazing. Wouldn't you love to know what that was? Its almost like something grew inside of his stomach and then busted out. It is great that he seems to be doing good now.
 
As soon as I fed tonight he spit out the eggs and the cleaner shrimp made short work of them. I just hope he starts eating normal again. He hasn't for the last 2 1/2 months.
 
Well since the 6th he has been eating everything in sight. He is back to being a very aggressive eater and I've been overfeeding to make sure he gets enough. A few days ago the female started her, what my grand daughter calls her hoochie mama dance so I may be needing to get ready again very soon.

Lost one sometime last night. Found it this morning, mouth open and gills flared in the back corner where 4dot and mate hang out. Appeared to be another of the larger, assuming, males.
 
Amazing thread! Have you tried feeding Otohime? I know that's what a lot of clown breeders use with great success. It comes in different sizes as well.
 
Haven't tried that yet. So far I've tried every combination of the following: BBS, shaved frozen mysis & brine shrimp, cyclopeeze, reef pearls 300-500 micron & 500-800 micron and they only strike the BBS. The still key on movement. I've even tried varying the flow and direction but still no luck.
 
Lost another one yesterday so that puts me at 7. Another of the larger ones so it must be the males fighting it out. Fins and all they are about the size of a quarter now in a 20 long with plenty of rock and hiding places.

Mama getting fat again so I expect her to lay any day now. Dad looking better so I'm curious whether he'll attempt to hold again. Even if he does I don't know if I'll try to raise another batch or not. These little guys take a ton of time.
 
I guess I need to make up my mind for sure because the male started holding on the 9th. The clutch must be huge because his gills are flaring out an extreme amount. When he turns away from you the eggs can be seen through his gills easily.

The first batch is down to two. I've been having a bunch of unexplained deaths over the last week. I lost another one the day after the above post to take me to six, then one vanished to put me at five, jumpy swims-a-lot died so then four, found one floating tonight when I got home to take me to three and just now another one vanished. I fed them and all three started eating like they were starving and then I turned around to do something and when I looked back one was gone.

I've searched that entire tank top to bottom and no fish. So I'm guessing I have a predator that is picking them off. Any ideas what could kill and then pull them inside the rock so I couldn't see it? It a bare bottom 20 gallon long so we're not talking a huge area.

I'm sure it is a ton of work, but I imagine once you get in the swing of things it won't be so bad. Who knows, selling off a few fish here, buy a bit more equipment or another pair... soon you'll be the next ORA selling us your JM Bangaii's everyone raves about. :)
 
I guess I'm going to have to do a little night hunting until I find out what it is.

I have a little more time to decide because he spit them out sometime since lights out last night.
