Nice clowns adtravels but those bottom ones are ocellaris.

Why do you say that?
I my opinion they most definatly are not,
consider the height of the dorsal fin, body shape, eyes, What you cant see is their behaviour very timid, will not stray more than 6 inches from their anemone.
Percs dont have to have alot of black on them you know, many have very little black just like my fish.

Having had the fish for a year I am pretty convinced too, its easy to say if that if they have lots of black they are percs, not true, in a thread like this I believe they are a good example of non-onyx A.percula. they only have 9 dorsal rays as well:rollface:

This is the outcome of my naso tang and my true perc breeding!!!! j/k

Just having fun with Photoshop :)

Incidentally I believe that most onxx percs in the wild are found with S. gigantea, Whilst the nononyx are generally found with H. magnifica. The Melanism being possibly attributed for by (at least in some part) the anemone as is seen with other species A. clarkii and S. mertensii, A. tricinctus and s. mertensii. Also could explain why some onyx loose there color when hosting in BTA's for example.

just another fascinating point for discussion.

I am by no means basing my opinion off of the amount of black they have adtravels.

I only count 8 spines. (9 spines could be either, 10 is 100% true perc, 8 is 100% false)

The shape of the middle bar screams Ocellaris.

The eye is dark which is an indication of Ocellaris (granted thats not the best indication with pics & flash causing distortion)

& the fact that you said they are extreemly timid also tells me Ocellaris, perc's in general are more agressive than ocellaris.

I also think they are Ocellaris. The picture is not enough for me to count spines, the shape of the middle bar should not cause me to lean one way or the other. IMO, the eye coloration is most important with the size of the dorsal fins second in my opinion that they are Ocellaris.

Its funny you talk about flash distortion they do have orange eyering but it does not show in that pic that was also taken 6 months ago.
i respect what both of you are saying but I have the fish infront of me, they are not ocellaris, they came into a shop here at the market that gets its fish from australia, solomon and PNG area. 99 percent of the clowns here (bangkok) are ocellaris there are no local true percs, I see literally thousands each week, and these fish are distinctly different. As orion N has said in the past you just know when it comes to ID, i see them every day you have seen one photo, I will get a better pic

By all means do get more pics :) I love amphiprion clowns!!!

I would however request that we start a new thread on them for "ID discussion" purposes since this is just a post your true perc pics thread.
