Perry's 120 Gallon Reef

Perry - Some great shots of the fish! I love your Powder Brown and Percs. Cheers :)

Thank You Nate!
The Percs are hosted to Candy Cane coral, there were 2 RBTA's and that huge toadstool, but no, they had to be different, I guest that is why they are clowns :)

Nice fishy pics. At least you tried to name and post pics of all your fish.

Biggles is a big time slacker...I bet he wont even bother responding to your challenge by naming all his acros and post awesome quality pics of all of them. You win Perry, you win. :)

Yeah, I Biggles wanted to call me out on my thread updates, I figured I needed to get busy and put up some pics and updates, the back in forth is fun, and hopefully he does not shame me by putting up some crazy colorful coral pics :)

How are your one month old new frags doing?

Matt,
All but the blueberry nasuta are doing very well, it had a bit of stn, clipped it, have only a pinky nail piece trying to hold on, otherwise all others have almost healed onto their respective locations. I will try and get a few pics soon to show them in their homes.

Awesome fishy pics Perry

You have 12 fish in 120 gal which gives you a bigglefish coefficient of 1.00

I have 22 fish in 140 gal giving me a bigglefish coefficient of 1.57

I will be reviewing all my mates bigglefish coefficients over the coming weeks so don't feel too bad about your just passable numbers Perry, Sahin's coefficient will be disgraceful i'm fairly certain.........

The coefficient scale has been set, biggles +1 :) This may have something to do with your boredom of having such great colors on those acros mate :) Let's see them beauties that you have, 22 pics coming I presume, lol... @ 1.57 FPG I think you may given away some secrets to your madness, just saying... Good stuff, I love the back and forth, but there is some truth to this secret my friend :)

Thank You!
The system originally ran pellets and gfo, I pulled both shortly there after, then I went to chaeto in the sump, and while effective, I decided to make use of the sump space for a frag tank area, so I decided to simply run a hybrid version of zeovit. I do not think this system needs the stones, while my 70 did really good with the stones, I feel I can keep nutrients really low without them, and so far so good, MB7 is quite effective at pulling PO4 down. I believe zeostart3 mainly handles NO3. Should I feel a need to do so it would be simple to add in a rx, but I do not see anything that will elevate nutrients, otherwise it would have already happened when I pulled the chaeto, for this simple reason I believe the skimmer does more than it's job, the C-source and bac source merely keep me ultra low, allowing for the fish to stay fat, hopefully I can get some pics of them today:) I forgot to mention I use ESV GAC in a mesh bag in a 2LF rx, changed monthly @ 1 cup.

Thanks for the respond how was your po4 and no3 when you had a fuge? I do a hybrid zeovit and no matter what i do i can't get the po4 and no3 high enough always zero even with different test kits. So i am thinking of just removing the fuge also and just to a frag tank for refugium section. I think it should help. I clean the glass once a week if that sometimes a week and a a half.

Dan,
Keep the ULN system, but feed more variety of more food, add more diversity to the tank. I think Biggles is of a thought that 1 fish per 10 gallons might be the low scale for colorful acros, having a belief that more fish, fed well with variety, with an aggressive removal system=colorful sticks
I personally feel that my 12 in 120 is perfect considering the size of my fish, they are huge and poop quite a bit, so every 3 days without fail, I have to swipe my glass. My skimmer goes nutz, my corals extend with feeders at the tips. I know this makes them very happy:)
While I do test weekly for nutrients, I don't feed to much into them anymore, while I have never seen this system, while ran differently at times, ever test higher than 0.02 for PO4 and 2-5ppm for NO3. In fact, I too cannot register on any test kit anymore for either, but know every 3 days I will swipe that glass, so I know it is in the tank, but there are no types of algae present, at all... I think the skimmer is the heart, it skims constantly, another thought to me is that I get away with sand, my goby and cucumbers are amazing, so while BB ran tanks have an advantage of nutrient removal, I have perpetual removal with constant food source being delivered to my tank, whether it may be stirred up fish food, or sps food, all day long, sand in my water column, really only upsets me during photo time :) I am not sure of your fish count, or your feeding to your system, but I would simply start by feeding 3 times at least per day, maybe even drop aminos every once in awhile. Or, I would dial down your C-Source and Bac dosing quantities, allowing for nutrients to rise that way, or maybe a combo of both.

Ya it is what i was thinking i been dosing AA, zeofood and oyster feast and i feed 3x a day 3 cubes and occasionally pellets . I was thinking if i remove the fuge slowly and see if it would help. Ya i got 9 fish and only 2 are big..things are starting to color up again nicely
Ya i lowered my carbon dosing and let it get dirty a bit. And its working.

Is there any reason i couldn't have a powder brown tang with my fish Perry, yours looks awesome and i want another tang. They're not crazy like powder blues are they. ;)

Hi Perry,

Did you get your 7 frags from LFS or shipment? They look pretty healthy and all very good choose.

Thank You Chinamom!

@Biggles, the Powder Brown is unique, definitely the weirdest of the lot, but does not argue too much with the others, "Sketch" the Bristletooth, now that guy is another story, has been beaten up several times but still insists on defended space and harassing others, even though he takes the occasional battering, lol... Yellow runs the tank. Powder and Yellow don't even see one-another, like they are unaware of each other. Bristle and Yellow, Yellow always wins! I will never own another Hippo, they are the craziest and meanest fish I have ever witnessed. I stop with my current 3, maybe another wrasse, goby or two, a few chromis, and that should bring my BFC to a reasonable range :)

Hello,
Thank you for the interest. I have 5 of 7 doing well, I snapped the pics yesterday, and most are almost healed to live rock. The sunset mill sits on the low part of tank in the frag rack with the blueberry nasuta, which was cut down smaller due to a weird stn, it had like a barnacle adhered to it, I removed and it did not like the change. I salvaged a small piece, but it is going to take time. Pics coming in a few moments.
Thanks,

Dan,
Keep me informed, and update the thread, I will stop by and take a look at your progression :)

Mark and Mike,
Thank you so much, I agree these new corals are awesome and I too am looking forward to their growth, but I am still a major fan of the "old school" corals and trying to show coloration beyond their lineage. I was able to get some pics this AM, most of them were these type of corals, while colors not exactly where I want them, I feel I am at least heading in the right direction. Thanks again!!!
