Perry's 120 Gallon Reef

Well I've been absolutely blown away! Perry things are just looking absolutely amazing!! Colours = phenomenal, health = phenomenal, the acid trip = phenomenal! Just stunning mate, you've certainly got me feeling motivated again :)

Awesome tank and pics.. I found this thread researching aqua Forest products.

Thanks Sprite! If you have questions or need any help with the system, message me ;)

Corals are class:)

Thanks Robbie! And again, congrats on your recent achievements!

Oh lala! I also like the Chips Acro! :) I`m glad the cyano treatment is working for you.

I'm just starting the Component 123 now too, and I'm wondering how it's going to pan out dosing the same amount of each one. I'm thinking I'll probably need to add on a 4th doser for sodium carbonate only. It's seems like that is always the case, but maybe, just maybe AF has figured out some perfect number. Debora seems to be able to use the C123 evenly long-term.

Mindy,
I am still trying to lock into the dose, I don't believe it will hold up the big 3 evenly, that is if you set your measurement based on alk. From what I have already seen through testing, and the reef store that uses the method, if set to proper alk replacement, likely CA and Mag will gradually fall. I believe I will probably have to manually adjust weekly, no big deal I suppose. I will update the journal accordingly or reach out to me if you want. Either way, best of luck and share your experiences :)

Too kind Dom! I am pretty happy that I got through the cyano treatment, and have returned quickly with coloration. Since dosing component system, I do feel the trace is giving me a boost. I am glad I could help to motivate you, you have a great gift in the hobby and plenty of success, so use that great knowledge and show the results, you got this Dom !!!

Flo, thanks, I am going to get over to the journal soon, I see that it is on a forum that I don't visit too often, so I will subscribe for update reminders.
Cheers,

Some really great picture. What kind of camera are you using to snap those awesome shots?

Thank you very much! I am using the Cannon T1s Rebel. Older camera, but still takes nice pics :)
Cheers

Thanks Mark! I am growing all this out, then I may want to do a new tank using all the fresh cut frags from my colonies. Something I am thinking of doing around the spring of 2017. We are going to pull the carpet in the house and do wood or tile, either way a perfect time to build a killer stand and maybe plumb through the way and have a make shift fish room. We shall see, I really love the 120, but I would love to go custom next year and build to spec. Thinking about 60"x28"x20"deep. More shallow and a tad wider and longer. I could use the same light setup and all the other components. I would likely do my 48x24x12" frag tank as a sump, install my own baffles, and partition off a fuge. If so, I will use all treated dry rock, and take my sweet time :)

Sounds like a fun project. Having a reef tank that is doing well really takes the urgency of a build off. My 60 has really taken the pressure off the 120 build. It lets me fund as I go and think things through.

Chips acro was a must have for me also. I had one in the tank I had in Houston. It took a while to find one locally, but I got one stashed in my frag tank waiting for the upgrade.

Yeah I'm also really glad to hear you got through it without any real bumps and everything is looking good and cyano free :D
The glow is just unreal so they're definitely happy in your care and the anthias are still looking great too! Has the male transitioned completely yet?
Thanks Perry :) I knew I'd get into too much trouble if I stopped lol so I'm persisting, I'll be heading home to assess today and prepare for a water change tomorrow I think :)
I hope you and your family are all well :)

Glad to know you have a frag of the chips acro, not easy to come by these days, I think ORA lost the mother awhile back, I am sure they got it back though... Cannot wait until that 120 gets wet :)

Dom, thanks again :) Yeah the male is now a male completely, however the female is prettier, IMO...lol... Don't sweat the tank, we have things happen, when the tank is in front of all the other hobbies and life, life will eventually give you a backhand across your cheek. Take it easy, get back to basic fundamentals, and it will be all good. Sometimes cracking a beer and relaxing will help, lol.... We are all doing good over here, getting to that time of the year where the AC runs full time, mosquitoes are getting bad already, ughh.... Cheers Mate!

Glad to hear you kicked the cyano Perry! Photos are great it doesn't look like the coral have skipped a beat!

Thanks Tim, I too am surprised at how quickly the job was done, skimmer dialed back in, and the corals have all responded very well :) I was surprised I didn't lose as much color as I thought when processing the top down photos. Cheers!

Hi Perry. .... nice corals there !!!

I haven't had time yet to take pictures of the fuge and post them on my thread.

Now I am in a business trip in Fort Lauderdale, enjoying again the warm weather. No mosquitos around the hotel. They keep it away .... LOL. This time I took a flight here. The car driving to Tampa was fun and we will repeat it. We returned to Boston with a lot of orchids (Wife Hobby). No corals on my side, but if the tank is doing well for my next trip, I plan to return with frags !!! .

All the best Perry !!!

Daniel

Daniel,
Glad to hear you are back in the sunny state, the weather down south is probably hot, but amazing :) Enjoy your stay! You know what is in the tank, you will have to stop over for a peek, lol... Thanks again Daniel, hope all is well my friend!

Small update:

Just ran an alk test, I have not been adjusting manually, I test at the same time every day, and bump up, try again the next day, then bump it up again. I am now up to 150ml of the componenet 1,2,3 dosing system. I am hoping this will rest as the sweetspot, as 5L will go fairly quickly.

I can honestly tell that when I get this dose locked in, that the coral health is going to improve, I can see so much improvement in each and every coral at this point. I am still feeding 3 times per day to my fish, only frozen and the yellow tang finds a few spots of algae in the tank to pick on. With the corals still pasteling at this point, the health of the corals eludes me to believe that if I were testing nutrients, they would likely be low. Right now I am testing alk only. Once that is locked in, I will begin charting all my numbers weekly. Kind of a rainy day, so I may post up a FTS along with some other coral shots. I will also update the thread with complete summary of dosing schedules and all products being used.

Pics, pics, pics!!!
:)
Rainy days are good for some things..

Why are you holding off on testing nutrients until alk is solid?

Hey Matt,
Colors are really good, I see nothing that makes me think to worry over nutrients, I really don't test too often, I will see a 5ppm nitrates and think that I should be concerned, just doing the usual and keeping a close eye on corals. I gathered a few decent photos... Here we go...

Nice Perry. Really nice.
Talk about a box o crayolas.
I love the creamy rainbow you got going.
Do you have a pink lemonade down on the lower right - on its own rock as well as another pl up in the centre left?
Or is that your peach Acro up on the left?

Perry really nice. I am up to like 250ml a day of each. It gets used up fast and I need to refill containers often. I now mix my own as you know (still using the AF dry powders though) so it's not as expensive as the pre mixed.
Had a question about the gyre, do you like it? How is maintenance on it?

Dang! That is looking really good! Very nice contrasting colors and shapes Perry:thumbsup:

Wow, your tank is really looking great. Your corals have amazing color and I love the placement. Excellent work Perry!

Beautiful and inspiring! I like that there is an even color mix throughout the tank. There is not a theme of one dominant color.
Also, the two rock island landscape is very life like and is exactly the formation that you see while diving on reefs. It is going to be cool watching the reef evolve as the red, yellow, and blue/green on the left start bridging the gap and filling in towards the Ponape, pink, and lime on the right.
