Perry's 120 Gallon Reef

wuhu new pictures!
man the red planet is something really great. i really have to search for a frag over here... don´t know where but maybe i´ll find it

thanks for the new pictures Perry!

Flo

Thank You Flo! Very kind of you to say, that is a standard coral here, The Red Planet, but a must have in the aquarium, in my opinion :)

The color on that planet is rich. A common coral that you have made look very uncommon. Good show!

Thank you Kevin! This coral has shifted to more pink/red, and due to high light, has only faint signs of green, more neon like green. I love what this coral can do in really any tank, run with any type of system, just a cool coral :) Hope all is well :)

Hmm, I have 2 spots where hair grows, but nowhere else, I just manually prune it since it is an easy reach. Grows on the plastics of the tank, but underneath the led strips, must be getting the light it loves. It also grows like an algae scrubber in my overflow compartment, I have to prune it or my flow slows down....lol... As long as it is not in the tank, I don't mind pruning, lol... I think the addition of the coral food is a great idea, let me know how your corals react. Cheers!

Hey Perry, I actually looked at the spoons closer, and the one I'm using that came with the Reef Chili is much bigger than the Salifert spoon. I measured it at slightly more than 2 Salifert spoons. The Salifert spoon is 0.05 mL, so the Reef Chili one must be about 0.11-0.12 mL. So I guess I'm feeding about 7x what you are everyday, and you're only feeding it 3x per week. Plus, my tank is much smaller. Maybe I should test nutrients this weekend. :uhoh3: I can say that the hair algae hasn't gotten any worse since I've added the nightly Reef Chili just about a month ago.

Over the weekend I moved out all of remaining non SPS corals. The corals were living well, just not happy with high light and high flow. That said, I am nearly all sps at this point. I still have the ricordeas, but they would be too hard to remove from the rock, they are on the side of the tank. I also decide to move some corals around to get more balanced with coloration. I am pretty happy with the changes, but the left side kinda looks a bit bare compared to the rightside pyramid :) Here are some photos from today... Enjoy!

Very nice Perry, you know how you can fix the LHS, buy more coral :celeb2:

The pyramid has all the colonies and the frags are on the left. The left will fill in in no time! What's the pink one on the bottom in front of the pyramid?

:inlove::inlove:

wow looking great Perry!
can´t imagine moving out all LPS in my tank, but it suits yours!!

acros are looking great! didn´t expect anything less, but nice to see those pictures!!

Flo

Scrumdiddlyumptious Perry, beautiful mix of colors but i like that the pastels are pastel yet there are also lots of deeply saturated acros - like in nature. All pastel on everything is a dead giveaway of metal induced stress ;)

You know that gross green flubber thing has got to go mate. When i start getting PM's from Sahin titled 'Perry's Cabbage Patch' it's only a matter of time before he starts knifing you to everyone. I have your back though

Sahin suggested you should use a garden hoe to get that thing out.......... nasty bit of work is our Sahin.........:twitch:

Thanks Mike! More room for acros now buddy!!!
Cheers

Thanks Matt, no we do not have time for stuff that doesn't do well with the tons of light and flow I have, lol...

Very nice Perry, you know how you can fix the LHS, buy more coral :celeb2:

I am always on the hunt for new acros my friend, and we can always find more space, I do have the back wall, and a nice spot in the middle of the "ledge" and the "pyramid" for a small bommie, lol...

Mindy, I am not totally sure on that little pink one, it is the same piece that is up in the top left of the tank. I think I will just let it be were it is, lol...

Once that left fills in, will be epic!

Thanks a lot, that was actually the thought, I have many premium small to mid range size pieces that will be showstoppers as colonies, so hopefully the tank can continue this course. Cheers!

Thanks Flo, I appreciate the kindness as always my friend!

Wowee :inlove:

Just trying to build the drama around here mate, I know you and Andrew have a few tricks up your sleeves, so maybe the audience needed to be warmed up a bit, lol...

Yes Andrew, I am aware of Sahin, he is all over the place mate, you never know where he is lurking... Thanks for the heads up mate! Thanks for the compliment, as always I appreciate you looking things over! Oh, I still have flubber, I also have a nano now, I feel a part of the cool club now :)

Perry..... Those latest shots are pure Acro bush bliss!!!
Such an array of solid colours and great growth!
Love it!

Thanks Matt, I appreciate you looking over the journal, and also the kindness of your words. I have a feeling that in 6 months or so, the tank will look more even. I have hopes that I will see some vertical growth on the left side. Cheers Man!

Looking Perfect Perry. :)

Thanks Mark, not too sure about perfect, lol, but I am happy that you like it man. I am constantly looking things over to see if something may look more pleasing to the eye in another location, the removal of all the non sps allowed the vision to be more clear, hence why I moved stuff around. Thanks again Mark!

Looks awesome Perry! I love the scape...but why the pvc fittings instead of mounting those colonies on small rocks?

Thank You!!! Yeah, I know sort of random how I have those setup, I have removed all but 3 now, and likely will pull all of them and make another small bommie in the middle of the tank, if so, these will be placed on the rock structure. Some are backup pieces already in other spots, that is why they are down there. Sort of where the corals and frags get dumped, lol.
Cheers, thanks for looking things over!

I think everyone is doing a bit of dramatisation at the moment :lmao: there are some tricks floating around lol I'm just not revealing the new build until after it's here and wet because every time I start talking about a new tank of any kind before it's wet it never happens haha but this one is close and I'm super excited!!

damn straight that is the right attitude!!!

LOL... I am very much looking forward to the new setup, I am sure it will be amazing, just glad to see you so stoked, it is a great feeling :) I am just getting a nano going myself, it is in the bedroom, and I have it looking pretty cool. So, we are all a bit on the cray cray side around here, it should be the "super insane addicted" forum, not sps forum, lol... :)

Awesome thread. What bulbs are you using? Any LED Supplement?

Thank you very much! I use 2 reefbrite blue strips on either side of the tank and use the following bulbs: 4xBlue+, 2xCoral+, and 2xAquablue Special. The spectrum is fairly white without the led supplementation, but the growth is insane. The 2 reefbrites make a tad more blue, which gives the overall appearance in person much nicer on the eyes. I turn them off for photos, otherwise the pics come out too saturated, especially blue colors at the tips. Cheers!

damn straight that is the right attitude!!!

Yes, we are all a bit on the silly side around here, but that is the fun of it, acros make me silly stupid ;)
