Perry's 120 Gallon Reef

Holy crap Perry wow brother. This is getting tough.. Between you Matt, and Matt (reefmutt) are killing me.. When one just comes up with an omg pic, the other one just tops it. Insane . That acid trip is insane

Ahh, you are a player Dom, I know your tank is going to be over the top and amazing, cannot wait my friend :)
I hope so haha I'm looking forward to having the extra room and being able to scape a new tank that is cramped like the cube is! And some of the fish that are now on my list should make for a pretty interesting tank! :)

Perry, your tank is doing fantastically well. Congrats !!!!

I took this weekend the fuge pictures I owe you. You probably forgot about your request.... LOL. I will Txt it during the week. Now I am in a flight to Washington DC.

Cheers
Daniel

Awesome Daniel, I still remember the pic request :) I am a huge fan of fuges, have always been intrigued by them, and most of my tanks had them. My dream build one day will include a show fuge, here is to dreaming anyway!

Wow Perry, all the words used up. You sir are in the zone, just keep going. :)

Hey Mark, thank you very much man, I do feel the tank is in a zone too, hopefully it remains stable :)

Perry, mine grows very slower too and I thought it does not like my tank. It grew quite fast in Michael's tank with long polyp extension.

Kiet, Yes I know it grows painfully slow, lol... That piece Michael had is a goner, the LFS lost it, so only a few of us who have it. Charles and I are having luck with recent growth spurts, he too is being bombarded with LFS's, and hobbyists trying to get a piece :)

That is too funny, I guess that is how us reefer buds compete, no just kidding, I think it is capturing photos more out of disbelief than anything else, at least for me. The top downs really are what give me the indicator on how well corals are doing, and often I do not see these hues until processing photos... Cheers Jorge!

Looking forward to it mate!

I forgot to ask, how are all the anthias going?? :D Has that male fully transitioned yet? lol

Hey Dom,
I have 2 of the 5 lyretails, and all 3 of the bimacs. I am strongly considering adding a small layer of sand(tropic eden reefflakes) so that I can have more diversity in fish and inverts. I love the way nutrients are being handled with bb, but I must admit that my love for wrasses has taken a back seat to this setup. Plainly put, I need more fish mate!!!
Cheers

Well Perry, I did it. Finally finished reading every page of this thread! Fantastic tank, and a real inspiration for my new tank build. I'm setting up a Red Sea Reefer 350 and because of this thread I've decided to go with AF products from the start. I'll start my own thread eventually, but keep up the fantastic work (and pictures!), and maybe sometime I can stop by and see it in person if I head way up north ;) Getting my tank wet this weekend, and lot's of work to do on it, but I'll be following along with your thread!

Bill, thank you so much for the feedback and for reading through my journal, I appreciate that :) If you are ever in the area, you are welcome to visit my home and see the reef, that is an honor to feel like my tank has inspired someone. Likewise, one day I will make it back down to the keys, it has been years, and I truly love it there! I am quite envious! Good luck with your new setup, I look forward to seeing your progress :)
Cheers!

I think a small layer of sand (or even a shallow container you hide around the back) would be a good idea to get some wrasse in that display! lol I'm glad to hear most the anthias are going strong still :)
More fish is always a good idea :p well within reason lol having lots of fish to supplement the lack of movement that acro's offer is what makes some of the best sps displays!

Took some photos yesterday to show the full view, the right side pyramid island, and the left side ledge. Threw in another shot I though looked pretty cool. The left side is trying hard to fill in. I have way more corals on the ledge side than on the pyramid, so if those darn corals would just grow a bit faster, I think the full view would look more complete. I am currently using 220ml per day of the AF component 123 balling lite system. This move a couple of months back is what I feel has balanced my tank. The rocks are super clean, I do get bacterial film on the glass, and on the plastics of the tank, but it scrapes easy, and skims out very quickly. Speaking of the skimmer, I never ended up using the new dc pumps, I have stayed with the original eheim 1260 pump, and I cannot believe how gnarly the skimmate is. I am collecting about 2 quarts of nasty per week. Visually, I see the tank is as clean and colorful as I have had with any setups from the past, including other systems run. Like everyone, I do have a few stubborn corals, but the vast majority seem to show nice colors. I am currently 5 months in to the AF system. Thanks for taking a look :)

Super nice as usual, Perry.
It also looks like growth has really taken off. The larger pieces seem to be shooting out all over the place.

Thanks Matt,
I have a bit of a run on growth, I think the t5 unit and bulb switch, with a whiter balance, and the addition of the AF component system have become the perfect storm for growth :) Next bulb switch I will be looking for better coloration and less growth :)

4xblue+, 2xcoral+, and 2xaquablue special with 2 blue reefbrite actinics

I plan to run this combo for growth for another 6 months, my next combo will be 5xblue+, 2xpurple+, and 1xaquablue special with the same 2 blue reefbrite actiniics.

Not a huge change, but a slight change that I feel will stoke more color, any feedback on bulb combos welcome here btw :)

Cheers!

Typically the bluer the tank, the better the coloration but a sacrifice for a little less growth. I should have used 1 less aquablue special in my combo and 1 more blue+. I am happy with colors, but the growth is really doing well, for now :)

Amazing as always perry:beer:
Love the colors:inlove:
What's your current bulb combo and to which one are you thinking of switching?
