Perry's 120 Gallon Reef

That's great Perry! Considering your work with AF I thought you could add this to you data bank of AF experiences:

I, with my 100G half cylinder, went from 16mL (Component 123) a day (Used for about seven days) to 24mL a day (Took about a week of daily testing to see this change) to 32mL a day (Changed to this about six days ago, right before my five day trip).

The day I got back (Yesterday) I tested the tank on all parameters (Alk, Cal, Mag, NO3, PO4, and Salinity) I'm shocked at the need to increase it again. At least this time it isn't a major increasing need like my prior two raises.

So, within three weeks, to keep parameters stable my tank went from 16mL to 32mL and will need more. The reason why this intrigues me is because of my dosing using my prior liquids (BRS calcium and Baking Soda). I was dosing about 16mL a day of each for months and it kept parameters stable.

My system has progressed well with my non Component system, but with it now using AF's Component 123 I am pleasantly surprised. My growth is indeed faster.

Your updates and tank convinced me to try out Component 123, and that's a big step for a guy, after 12 years in the hobby, isn't much for change. [emoji38]

PS - I also started using Reef Salt, and am pleased with it. It's nice not needing to manually lower alk via acid. 😥

Edit: I should probably add a pic for reference as to why my needs are so low versus most others..

Oh Biggles, I will be very aware of anyone who gets close to me, you probably already have people lined up for this bloody surprise :) I wish I could meet all the SPS forum regulars! Cheers Andrew :)

That is really cool Perry. Have fun.

Thanks Mark!!! Should be a great time :)

That darn Biggles, lol....

Tank looks soooo good perry:inlove::inlove:
Your cabinet is more organised than my wardrobe:p

Do you just toss minus in the reactor or put it in a bag first?
Couldn't see the details in the pic.Guess my eyes are getting old:p

Perry, have you ever used Prodibio's BioDigest and Bioptim? I ask because While I currently use the Component system and the Reef Salt, I haven't tried AF's bacteria system. I currently use Prodibio's version only because dosing once every two weeks beats the heck outta dosing once a day. I don't know the difference between the two, and am wondering if AF's version is somehow better... Enough so to justify daily dosing versus once every two weeks?

Hey Perry, it was nice meeting you and Debora yesterday at the AF Booth at MACNA. I know I could have carried at least four of those big salt buckets back to my truck! :lolspin:

Lucky! I would love to have gone to San Diego. One of the most beautiful places on earth.
AND MACNA.. Perfection!
Jealous..

Why does Andrew want to go to MACNA? So he can pay the same price for a tiny frag that gets him a full size colony down under?

Perry, things are looking fantastic, thanks for posting your full regime a page back or so, really helps understand what is going on. Your Hawkins is yet another that I hope to be able to color up in a similar fashion, right now mine is just green.

Hello Mike,
I do not use the AF Phosphate Minus in a sock. I use it stacked on top of AF Carbon, which is stacked on top of AF Zeo Mix. I use a sponge in between the AF Carbon and AF Phosphate Minus :) Yes, the cabinet looks good, but seriously I need to organize, lol... And for the first time in my life, I use reading glasses, so who is really getting old, lol.. Hope all is well my dear friend!

Yes I have tried this product, I have tried all, lol... Soon, maybe there will be a solution to not only dose the bacteria and carbon source, but maybe a way to do this with everything, perhaps I am just speculating ;) I understand your concern, but sometimes it is better to give small daily doses to the reef, vs. one larger portion per week. Stability means everything!

Can you post some show pics? Hope you have a great time out there.

Hi Kevin, I will hopefully get pics up soon, it was a blast, thank you!

Jorge, Thank you so much, and most importantly, congrats! Proud Dad..

OMG Matt, you are spot on, the weather and vibe was amazing, it was perfection as compared to the heat I am used to seeing, and the humidity!!!

Thank You Mark! You are most certainly on the right track! I am so stoked, to see your tank doing so well, and the lokani, yes need some :)

Aw man...I missed MACNA in my home town because I didn't want to deal with the temptation to buy, but I missed out on meeting you in person:sad2:

Thanks Perry, my guess is that there might not be all that much difference (vaguely speaking) between the two and their delivery methods could be even the same if I wanted it to be. I was just hesitant as I do leave semi often for little trips with the family.

Did you get anything from Macna, aside from meeting any fans? 😉 Maybe see some new stuff that made you say "I am so getting that!"

Yeah Matt, I should have at least met you outside of MACNA, but I know you have had a lot going on, I was tempted to message you on FB, but got busy, you know the deal. Maybe next year, going to be in New Orleans, and Deepwater is the platinum sponsor, so I should be attending. Was fun to hang with Debora and Sever, they are such great people! If you find yourself in FL again, for any reason, please let me know, I would love to hang sometime :) Best to you man!!!

Hey Christian,
I did bring home the new media from AF, 2 liters of AF Life Bio Fil and the 600ml tub of AF Poly Glue. I have already pulled matrix and replaced with the AF Life Bio Fil. It comes pre-loaded with bacteria, so it should work straight away. Upon return, with no dosing for 4 days, I did notice that the tissue darkended in some corals, which would be normal, I suspect that nutrients probably crept up do to no dosing. My fiance held down the tank, just keeping an eye and feeding, nothing more :) I did have dinner with the owner of Pacific Sun, and maybe will be trying a Hyperion Led T5 combo, and the Kore 5th. We shall see. As far as other live goodies, so tempted, but did not want to have to deal with TSA, lol... Cheers :)

If you do make it let me know. It is just an hour from me so I have plans to attend.

We need some pics of the Life Bio Fil. Also, forget about those new lights and doser, you need to get their new CaRx. That thing looks amazing. :)

Man, you did well, Perry!
I'd love to see that new media. I want to remove my dsb and replace it with the Life Bio Fil..
But also, I'd be very curious to see a pac sun over your tank. Always been interested in those lights. Customer support isn't great in Canada, I don't think, though.

Appreciate so much the fact, you share all those things bud:beer:
I know you have some pics,so i'll just wait for them:)
Fiance keeping the tank healthy surely must have gained some bonus for her!
