All your acros are looking perfect, Perry.
It's like you got a bunch of little reef fairys to go into your tank and scrub out the dirt and grime from every nook and cranny of the acros.
Like you said, they shine. They have a particular glowing freshness like when your camera lens finally falls into perfect focus or when the mist finally blows over and the morning sunlight hits everything just right.
Love it.

Dude! These two make my knees weak :) I wonder if it is a tenuis, it looks a little different now, but I will have to ask that you update this guy as time passes.

So Perry, you're the resident go-to AF guy; Sunday I finally managed to get my DKH to 7.3 dosing AF 1-2-3. Happy days! Sunday is my test day, P04 came in at 1.34, ouch! I believe the high P04 was due to storing some reef rock in my water change barrel that came from a high P04 system. My water change barrel has been running AF reef salt for 2 months now. Anyway, I filled a TLC reactor with Rowa, and I mean filled, pretty close to 1000 grams worth, ran the pump with RO/DI to clean out the fines, and set it in the sump. This evening I tested. DKH dropped to 6.2 and P04 dropped to 0.34. Is that even possible? DKH tested with Hanna, cross checked with Salifert. P04 tested with Hanna. The water change barrel had a P04 reading of 0.61. I have since moved the rock, scrubbed the barrel, refilled with RO/DI, and mixed a fresh batch of AF reef salt at 79* with a SG of 1.026. Is the Rowa messing with my DKH readings? Has AF done any testing with Rowa? These numbers have thrown me for a loop after only 24 hours of run time.

I have had large amounts of rowa lower my alk like that but it balances out in the end. I hope your corals do well with the quick drop in po4. I brought mine down from around .3 to .1 in a day with a big batch of rowa and I didn't see any bad signs. I think it's mainly when things go to low from being at higher levels for a long time when bad stuff happens.

Things are looking fantastic as usual Perry. I want to get more of the pastel yellow to my pl like you have in yours. I'm hoping just a bit more light will do it.
Are you still reading the same nutrient number (po4 0, no3 2.5) you test with hanna but have you tried the also kit? Hanna always gave me 0 but also gives me a reading.
See looking at your pictures I would think your nutrients are lower than mine but I read less than 1 no3. Maybe you really do have lower po4 than me though. How often does your glass need wiping?

Awesome as usual! Truth is there is not a bad or average looking piece in your tank. It looks like every single piece is bringing out secondary colors, some of them glowing.

Where is the Acid Trip? Would love some Acid Trip porn.

LOL Kevin, previous page is a recent one, I want to let this one do some growing, so I will give it awhile until another picture is taken. Thanks for the kind words and checking in on the thread!

Nice stuff Perry. The tank is really coming along.

Thanks Mark,
Liking what I am seeing in your 120, coming along nicely. Thanks for the kind words, always a work in progress.

Just tested the new batch of AF reef salt, N03 and P04 zero. Happy to see the P04 numbers falling, somewhat fast for my liking, but concerned about the drop in DKH. Water change system has been activated, most interested in tomorrow's results.

Hey Mike,
I guess I am sort of AF guy, I do provide support. So, not sure exactly about the interaction between ROWAS and AF, but I am quite certain they are structurally similar. I believe AF on my experience is a bit less aggressive. Dropping alk like that in one day though.... hmmm.... I suppose it is possible, but have never personally seen that, I suppose it will work it's way out in time, keep me posted man. Cheers

Perry you have some sweet acros man, loving the pics. Trying to catch up on your thread now, you've been busy!

Thanks Josh, as an acro snob, we owe it to ourselves to have as many of these beauts as we can get our hands on, makes me think of a larger system, and that is already being worked out in my head, so not much longer :)

Hello Matt, now you are giving my acros too much credit, however, I do actually see certain glows and hues that make me fuzzy... lol.... I am upping my dosage on the corals foods and supps, I decided to see if I can get colors to push further, we shall see. I love the mix your own Component 123. More control ability. Thanks for the kind words man!

Dude! These two make my knees weak :) I wonder if it is a tenuis, it looks a little different now, but I will have to ask that you update this guy as time passes.

I am keeping a close eye on those, the small yellow just grows painfully slow....ugh.... I want it to be a colony, it has so much potential :) Thanks Piper!

Hey Mike,
I plan on doing an update on the reef, some slight changes made, and will put some pics up of equipment, dosing, and maybe a video. I have been swamped, but now have my normal mon-fri schedule back to set schedule. This will give me the time to update journal, but also maintenance of the tank. That PL has always liked it's spot, from the get go, so one of those lucky events, thansk for the kind words man! My nutrients just rose a bit, so this I plan to address on the update, and how I fixed. Glass needs swiping every 2-3 days, depending on how hazy I feel like allowing it to get :)

Geez your tank is looking better and better by the day. I am really debating on running AF comp 123 after doing a bunch of research and seeing your tank. If you dose 220ml on your 120 with that many acros I wonder how much I would really be dosing. I don't have any huge colonies. I have 2 decent sized ones and bunch of frags. Great Job

Thank you very much! I do the mix myself version now, and I can see that the 4L containers will go quite the distance :) I doubt you would have the consumption that I do, but it will get you there :) Cheers

120 gallon tank, and the AF program is as follows:

Probiotic System:
*AF Probiotic Reef Salt- 10 gallons every other week
*Pro Bio S(bacteria source) - 4 drops in AM after skimmer in sump
*NP Pro(carbon source) - 4 drops in AM after skimmer in sump
*Siporax- 2 Liters in TLF reactor slow flow(non AF)
*Seachem Matrix - 4 Liters in sump passive(non AF)
*AF Zeo Mix- 3 cups in 1.5L Vertex Zeolite Reactor(Stacked changed every 4 weeks)
*AF Carbon- 1.75 cups in 1.5L Vertex Zeolite Reactor(Stacked changed every 4 weeks)
*AF Phosphate Minus- 1.25 cup in 1.5L Vertex Zeolite Reactor(Stacked changed every 4 weeks)
*Filter sock to keep sump clean, changed every 3 days

Minerals/ Trace
*AF Component 1- 230ml per day contains: Ca, Mg, Sr, Ba, Co, Mn, Cu, Fe, Zn, Ni, Cr

*AF Component 2- 230ml per day- contains: NaHCO3, F, I

*AF Component 3- 230ml per day- contains: mineral salts and K, Bo.

AF Foods and Supplements:
*AF Energy- 4 drops at night, after lights out
*AF Build- 4 drops at night, after lights out
*These are dosed together every other night*

*AF Vitality- 4 drops at night, after lights out
*AF Amino Mix- 4 drops at night, after lights out
*These are dosed together every other night alternating*

*AF Power Food- 3 times weekly 3 spoons mixed with tank water lights out at night
*AF Fish V- 2 drops every other day with frozen fish food, while thawing

Picture of the sump, this is the most organized I have been with the sump. The matrix was recently taken off the floor of the sump and moved to a spaghetti basket as to not allow for settling. My nitrates went up to 5ppm and phosphates to 0.09ppt. I knew it was time to break down the sump and do a thorough cleaning, in 3 days, I am now down to 2.5ppm nitrates, and 0.03 phosphates. I think it is important to point out that normal maintenance and husbandry is imperative, regardless of how many drops of this or that added to a tank...

My skimmer looks this way constantly, this is the backbone to my the tank, best skimmer I have used so far.

4L of Matrix moved from the floor of the sump, middle chamber, to a strainer basket to allow flow and less chance of settling detritus.

Spectacular Perry!

Really love the colors and how clean everything looks. Even your rock is clean.

Thanks for laying out your AF product regime. It's part of some of the nutrient control options I have been considering, once things start taking off.

Nice write up Perry. So it seems you upped the zeo mix amount a little? Was this to combat the raising nitrate. Are you no longer using kz flatworm stop? I need to get my matrix in some type of container and add some more, I think I only have like 2 litres. Your dosing is fairly consistent with mine for water volume except I dose e and b daily.
Tank looks great. Fts really shows how things have grown a lot and filled in

Sandollar, thank you so much, I really appreciate the kind words :) The rock is clean via short spine urchin, and truthfully, I am contemplating adding a few more, they do an amazing job with keeping the rock clean, and no more scraping the glass on the back wall, so much easier maintenance, lol...

Mike, thank you for the kind words. I find it important for anyone who wants to use this system to understand that normal maintenance and husbandry is still quite necessary, and cannot be fixed by dosing products, to me they simply compliment the system:) Yes, I added more Zeo Mix to the system, more Carbon, and more Phosphate Minus. Last week I asked Cindy(fiance) to feed the tank, she did alright, she meant to feed mysis, but instead of 2 cubes of mysis, she fed 2 cubes of cyclopeeze, which I feed once or twice a month, lol... Quite certain this helped the increase in nutrients. Either way, I scrubbed the equipment, and created a system for sump detritus removal. Now my sump is clean, the equipment is clean, and the matrix is no longer catching detritus on that tends to settle on the floor. I use socks, but still get some detritus through them, small particles that is. So, quite certain that has helped pull nutrients down within proper range. Cheers Mike!

Of course good maintenance is a must, products aren't a silver bullet, you need the good basics first. About once per month I vacuum my sump, skimmer section not quite so often as its hard to get in there. What is your system for sump detritus removal.
I am probably going to go with 3 cups zeo mix, 3 cups carbon, and 2.5 cups po4 my next change. Numbers measure low but I get glass dusting within a day, maybe 2.

@ Mike,
If you look at this pic and see the tube off the left side of the manifold, you will see it goes all the way to the filter sock. This will allow me to shut down the feed to the display, the feed to the siporax filter, so that the pump only pushes to the filter sock. This way, I can distrub the sump and allow it to clear, then repeat the process until all detritus had been captured within the sock. As part of maintenance, I will likely do this during water changes, this way I clean the sump, add new fresh salt water, and then replace the sock. Just using a dead line that was not in play off the manifold, thinking outside the box, glass box that is :)

Mike,
Sorry, but I still dose 2ml Flatworm Stop every night when dosing AF supps. I have seen examples with corals having slime that is at least 2 to 3 times of which I have seen before, so it really helps to reduce pests that prey on our precious corals, not anecdotal by any means, at least based on my observation :)

Only 2 ml? Seems like a low dose, I'm doing 8ml each night. Personally I hvnt noticed much increase in slime but it's still fairly early.

Really good idea on the manifold. I usually do the same idea just with a maxijet and tuning into my filter sock

Very nice write up, Perry. Very interesting.
Loving that fts.
You gotta get an orange passion in there. I am so curious to see what it would do in your system.

Perry, how confident are you with AF's food and supplement line? I currently use their Reef Salt (I use Prodibio and don't want to change as its very convenient) and their Component 123. Looking the the top four only:

AF Build: Is that akin to something like Reef Snow?

AF Energy, Vitality, and Amino Mix: Are you seeing positive results from any of these.. one more so than another?

Thanks Mike,
I pretty much pour a bit into the cap and then dose, sometimes 2ml, sometimes maybe a pinch more. I still dose on the light side with AF products, I am not one to dose to instructions, I prefer to stay under and see the impacts. I noticed mainly on the maricultured piece that is kind of going crazy, I recently fragged a small nub, the coral slimed like a slimer, maybe more, so I most certainly feel the slime coat has been increased. Just observation though :)

thanks Perry!

I thank you my friend, hopefully Life Bio Fil will be here soon, you should order some, I am certain it is available in the EU. I am very interested to see how quickly it impacts the nutrients, will be getting some for sure upon arrival :)

Thanks Matt,
I wanted to detail some info regarding my experience with AF and the fact that nothing replaces good husbandry and observation. I knew I was having issues in the sump, so I pulled the trigger and decided to break it down, so far so good. I do have a thought to remove filter socks all together, just a bit nervous about clogging medias. Cheers!

Hello,
Yes, build is similar to Reef Snow, Vitality is more vitamins and smells of it, Amino Mix, pretty straight forward, and Energy resembles CV from Zeovit. Confidence, yes I feel pretty good with the use of the products, I still dose under what most do, but that is my style I guess. So far so good :)
